Jigglypuff is immune to meteors raining from the sky. The deities of time and space can't touch it with their signature moves. Depending on its plate, Jiggs can laugh at Arceus's Judgement all day long. Don't underestimate this singer.

I'd name it Geoff and we'd go do stuff

[up][up][up][up][up]I'm well aware that Dark Samus is Samus in appearance only. Unfortunately for it, its main name still happens to have Samus in it.

[up]Was that an old Penny Arcade reference?

[down]I know. Maybe you were just clarifying for the thread, though.

Dark Samus is just the essence of Metroid Prime mixed with Samus' phazon suit.

So if Ridley does get added, he's in trouble against Jiggs.

I wonder if Jigglypuff will get any actual Fairy moves. I can't really see them changing any of Jigglypuff's current B moves, and there's no real Fairy move that'd make a good Final Smash either.

(incidentally, power immunity was one of the reasons for not changing the super weight page to its current form) Point being, most Pokemon would be minibosses to Kirby at their very best. (Well maybe, for every world terrorizing nightmare there is a pair with the fearsome power of pushing blocks, for every Metaknight, a Whispywoods...I think there was a point in there, somewhere)

As far as playable characters go I do not think Nintendo has any "too strong" to consider. Too boring, too much like one used already, too obscure, too loose in form (The water droplet from Fluidity) maybe but the superweight thing never seemed like much problem to me. As for boss types and Non player characters, I still cannot think of any "too strong". Too amorphous, too heavily designed and yes, too big but super weight does not bother me too much. Can it jump? Can it grab things? Good! Metroid Prime/Dark Samus works just fine for me. I include Metroid Prime just because of the accusations that it is Samus's evil half or something and because Prime can grab things, (theoretically)jump and would be awesome(and because someone else suggested it already, just as Midna suggests Lip)

I mean, they included Mewtwo in Melee AND it was bottom-tier! Clearly, in-universe strength means nothing.

Mewtwo was bottom-tier?

Not that I really care, but I always thought he was one of the stronger characters...

He was often dead last, even behind Pichu.

Nowadays he's a bit higher, above Pichu and Kirby at least, but still low-tier.

Competitive Melee is a whole different beast from casual Melee, mind you. Even then, though, Mewtwo isn't the most well-designed fighter.

In Brawl, we have Meta-Knight with the opposite problem, who is too well-designed. He's overpowered in both casual and competitive play, which is quite a feat since those are different even with Brawl's lower tech threshold.

I dominated Melee as Mr. Game & Watch, but he's low-tier as well. Not as low as Mewtwo, but down there.

I had trouble fighting as Meta Knight at first because his attacks were all too quick and short and there aren't too many characters like him.

And once I got used to him I found him fun.

Then I found out he was top tier and he became my training dummy.

Mewtwo was always fun. So floaty...

What makes casual so different from competitive play? Or does casual just mean "not against humans".

Well, it depends. In Melee there's a huge difference, less so in Brawl (That's part of why I prefer Brawl, I prefer to keep tech thresholds low and put more emphasis on mindgames than dexterity or comboing ability). Melee's metagame is mainly defined by advanced techniques such as lag-cancelling and of course wave dashing. Also, lots of using Fox's Down-B as an attack rather than as a shield.

Brawl's tends to basically be "regular play but much more intense", though there are a few advanced techniques used in Brawl (None I can think of off the top of my head).

I never got why Melee was so much more competitive than Brawl. I WAS able to see what made the fighting different though.

The first game didn't let you hold attacks, so every move was really sharp.

The second game let you hold moves, but they sort of held on so that attacks had to be pretty well-planned before you kept going.

And the third game was looser, with attacks flowing more freely and even dodges being softer.

...so I guess that's what they meant?

See, that's the thing, though. I entered a tournament and played as Mewtwo, and I still almost won.

Granted, the people I was against may have been crap...

I'd ask why he's considered low-tier, but I'm not going to understand any of it, so eh.

I think part of why Brawl feels looser is because they added buffering. That is, if you input the action for an attack before your current action is done, in Melee it wouldn't work, but in Brawl it finishes the first action then does the premature one afterward anyway, as long as the input falls within the "buffer zone" of "Okay, we'll do your attack, but let's let this animation finish first".

It's just a few frames, but it drastically reduces the frame-for-frame precision required otherwise, helping you flow more easily.

I bashed Mewtwo before and still do not want him in. But thinking it over, I will still take him over Lucario, even if they used his mega evolutions (the mechanic that soured me on X&Y).

On that note, why do I call Mewtwo he? Mew is a she and Mewtwo is a clone. Stupid anime.

edit: [up]Brawl may be "smoother" but Melee is faster, thus you do not have to slow down your fingers(as much). I hope this next game is faster.

I like Brawl better than Melee in just about every way. Even mechanically. I'll agree that perhaps Brawl went too far in the wrong direction, but SSB 4 will supposedly be a happy medium.

The only thing that disappointed me about Brawl compared to Melee was the trophy selection. Melee got creative, and wasn't afraid to create models for objects or dig deep for sources. Brawl mainly just recycled models from the most recent Gamecube and Wii games, added a description, and called it a day. There isn't even an Ultimate Chimera trophy, and it's an actual in-game asset.

Oh, I'm also not so crazy about mandatory tripping either, but that's fairly minor since all a tripping-related loss will get out of me is an eyeroll or a chuckle, not foaming at the mouth.

I'm going to be honest, the "Brawl made it too accessible for newbies" argument just does not sit well with me at all. I can get being upset by its slower pace or floatiness, but being mad that they took out wavedashing struck me as asinine. If you can't use it, neither can your opponent. It just means one less thing to focus on.
