That is indeed one weird-ass staff.

She looks a lot more... demonic in that screenshot than she does here.

Viridi isn't a giant, she's just able to project herself as an image similarly to the other gods.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

@Muk: To be fair, she is kinda sorta a villain in the first few chapters she's in, including the one on which this stage is based.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

Did anyone here play both the old and new Kid Icarus games? I never did, but my assumption was that the new ones are Kid Icarus In Name Only, taking cues from The Legend Of Zelda, Sin And Punishment and Metroid Prime Hunters (games I've never played more than a level of), much to its own benefit.

Is the gameplay a logical extension of the original? What of the story?

Am I just making shit up?

The original Kid Icarus is kind of... simple. Too simple, in my opinion, for any game that "logically" extends from it to really sell well in this day and age.

Never played the original, but I know enough about it to say that it and Uprising are completely different animals. While Uprising makes constant references and Continuity Nod type things to it (even outright using screenshots from it in some parts), the story is more or less ignored outside of its basic plot (Medusa is evil, Pit needs to save Palutena and can't fly, just try to make it past stage one you bitch). To be frank, though, there isn't much to the original's story outside of what you can infer from the manual or its multiple endings. The gameplay of the original is a more or less straightforward platformer built on the Metroid engine, whereas Uprising is more like a mix of Star Fox and a Beat 'em Up.

And here I thought this was the picture that confirmed Zelda as a summoner character. Damn you games that I haven't played yet!

Also, am I missing something here or does that Organization XIII-ass robed figure look nothing like that staff, or like any staff whatsoever?

She's holding it horizontally; that's the top of her scythe's blade you're seeing.

I fear this means we'll have canned monologue from Viridi during the stage, and no Pit codecs.

[up] Why's that? I mean, didn't that one Starfox stage (forgot what it was called) have codecs in it by the Starfox characters and the stuff they would say change base on what kind of backdrop the stage had?

Well, Viridi's astral projection thing showing up makes me think she'll be talking when she does, and I don't imagine they'd have a codec interrupt it.

Dunno. I mean, it would be the first time they would do that, but I imagine her just being there and not talking.

Except the Codec and Star Fox chatter were specific to stages and characters.

Snake's Codec doesn't work outside of his own stage. The Star Fox characters messages need their own stages as well.

If Viridi has messages, it'd probably only affect the Kid Icarus Character(s) and only if they're on that particular stage. If it follows how the rest worked, anyway.

I don't see how it would replace anything.

Ha, Sakurai's just skirting the possibility of playable Palutena. Of course he would.

Which means it's time for that age-old scream...

I hope Viridi is silent during the stage unless a codec is called. Mostly because it'd be annoying to hear the same lines time and again each time the stage resets (ha) itself.

Nice to actually see Viridi. Now let's hope that a certain space dragon doesn't suffer her fate.

But Ridley was already shown as a stage hazard? I think.

Irene (4 Score & 7 Years Ago) Relationship Status: Crazy Cat Lady
#34095: Jan 23rd 2014 at 6:48:04 AM

He was never shown.

There were hints in the Pyrosphere stage that he could possibly be a stage hazard, though.

Also, there's more than one Ridley, so that wouldn't matter. There's three Links in the 3DS version, two which are toon-based Links, soooo... one of them could still be playable. Meta or regular.

To be honest, I don't have high hopes for Ridley, but he's still a viable choice for playable.

I could have sworn one of Sakurai's screenshots showed a huge Ridley flying over the stage. But I can't find it. :T

If you have Miiverse, check here. Good luck, but I don't remember it.

But as I said, even if one of him appears, he could still be playable.(or even a separate boss/assist trophy)

To be fair, Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass Toon Linka nd Spirit Tracks Toon Link are seprate characters, but that would go into technical stuff.

If he had been shown, there would be almost no talk about him being playable. Yes there are different Ridleys, but I doubt we'll get Meta Ridley in the background while regular Rids is playable. Possible, but I'll give up if I see him before a trailer.

[up][up] Same with the Ridleys. There's more than one overall in the games. I don't mean Meta and regular.

[up] Good point.
