Like, my own little imaginary stories~
I mean, a story mode would be great as well! I just want it to not be so determinate over the "whys" of Super Smash Bros..
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI do kinda like the idea of having a story mode with a bunch of different Nintendo characters getting into fights and things.
But I think it's kinda interesting/sad that the levels and things most similar to the regular Nintendo series were the best like that. I mean, one level is basically Skyworld, in another you have Donkey Kong fighting Bowser's army, and the Porky fight is in an amusement park sorta like the one from that Mother game.
...The cutscene before the Ridley fight was cool, but he didn't fight like Ridley very much or at all.
And he was too big.

I know. That was the idea of Subspace Emissary that was good. I kinda liked it. There's little aspects of the execution that were kinda dumb though. Like some of the levels themselves. And the stickers. And the story was both too simple and too complex. And there were scenes missing. And the Subspace Army was dumb. And Tabuu.
Anyway. Well. There goes my idea for a Wily/Eggman double team Boss Fight.

My main complaints with SSE were that it didn't use enough settings from actual games (Skyworld and the Halberd were the only ones) or enough non-OG enemies (Bowser's army were the only ones). That, and Sakurai said that decisions would affect the story and the only real decision was whether to save Peach or Zelda, which didn't change anything.
Also, Great Maze was a bit of a drag, and some levels were a bit too long like the one that introduces Marth and Meta-Knight.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! If you all really argued that the male characters could not control their emotions in Super Princess Peach you all completely missed the point. The problem is that Peach is controlling her emotions with a vibrator. I could see that maybe going over some of your heads if you did not actually beat the game (it suffers from the same endgame difficult spike as Super Mario Land 2) but the impression I from every Super Princess Peach discussion on this site is that one side feels the need to stand up for it without playing it.
I can see the appeal in playing devil's advocate every once and while but I really cannot think of any other excuses than ignorance on that one. There is some good buried under the bad and the ugly there but it is not in the plot.
It is too bad Macargoman is gone because that goes back into my old argument, why I would rather just see some fanservice original character than Zero Suit Samus in Smash Bros. I think Masahiro Sakurai definitely has something he needs to get out of his system and I would rather him just draw up an outlet for it, rather than keep it up with Nintendo characters who were obviously never meant to be that way. Forget speculative psychotherapy, I would not actually mind playing that game, I am sure he would actually do a good job if just told to let it all out at once (in hindsight, Captain Falcon's bounce the other fighter off his crotch hard enough to cause an explosion attack should have been our warning sign, but we were all to busy screaming Falcon Punch I suppose)

Buldogue's lawyerI thought the SSE was a pretty entertaining game mode in general, but the Great Maze kind of dragged the whole thing down. It felt like artificial longevity to me.
pearlina brainrot affects millions of people worldwide. if you or a loved one are suffering from pearlina brainrot, call 1-800-GAY-NERDSActually, those small decisions did change it a bit. Playing as Zelda/Sheik is quite different from playing as Peach. Determining which of the two stories to play out, as in which of the pairs you play as when one of the fake Princesses is destroyed.
Also, who you rescue right before the Great Maze does matter a bit. You can lose Ganondorf and even a cutscene with him if you don't do it right. I think these are very flimsy changes in affecting the story, but they are there.
I wish there were far bigger story differences, though. Too late for that now, but I think SSB will go beyond the next two games eventually. Maybe we'll see another story mode someday. I find those fun. I want more cases where you can go through with alternate paths/stories like the SSE did, but far more than what we were given. I mean stuff like Tales of Symphonia(not as big as that story, but generally how many choices).

Shadow?I agree. There's a great amount of potential for it. I wouldn't mind some kind of Wii U game like that. And since it doesn't have to concentrate on the regular matches and gameplay thereof, it could be a side SSB game where you could put far more playable characters and bosses. As well as add ones that don't normally have to be available in regular SSB, or required to play as at all. For instance, while you could add Tingle, you could put him in areas where you choose up to 4 characters, but there's 5 total to choose from. Apply that to any similar(unpopular for whatever reason) character(Krystal, Waluigi, Daisy, etc.).
Shadow?Wasn't the original concept for The Wonderful 101 something like that?
Wonderful Ones for Smash by the way
I really want to push back against the idea that Sakurai's abandonment of a "traditional" story mode automatically means it's regressing to something as stunted as Melee's Adventure Mode. Like many veteran Nintendo designers, Sakurai's thinking is very lateral, so it's one of those cases where we really need to wait and see what's replacing SSE before passing judgment.
Speaking of Anomalocaris' avatar and title, if Ridley doesn't get into SSB 4, we should find out who was responsible for that decision, and then, well, write them a lot of sternly written letters or something.

I think a Rivals battle would clash with the canon that's been established in SSB: That all characters are toys that battle whomever upon the player's whim.
