I don't see why he couldn't make the standalone cutscenes be in the style of SSE cutscenes. By which I mean cutscenes made using the character models, but animated separately from in-game videos.
To use Team Fortress 2 as an example; it's the difference between Source Filmmaker videos (like the Meet The Team videos) and in-game machinima.

I have a message from another time...
Yes, my point is even if we still have those style cutscenes made, they won't be for the storymode.
If they aren't part of the story, then Adventure Mode will be just random levels and battles with nothing to tie them together, and the cutscenes, not being tied to a story, will be random events.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMWell, it's entirely possible for gameplay to form a story without connecting cutscenes, or for cutscenes alone to make up their own story.
But yeah, realistically, it's more likely the case they'll not be connected.
That said, it's still totally possible for something as hilarious/awesome as the Captain Olimar/Falcon scene to happen in an unconnected cutscene.

Geez it's late. 'night.

I have a message from another time...Hey, I forgot to bring this up a few days ago. On Dedede's page, there isn't a link at the bottom saying something "Want to find out more about King Dedede? Visit the official site for Kirby Triple Deluxe!". There's only a link on the Japanese site. Odd.
EDIT: Heh, on the French Site Toon Link is called Link Cartoon, and Villager is called Habitant.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMWhat if Events had their own self-contained story, and they all tied together to a greater story? Just an idea.
And nothing new in the pic of the day,
◊ but it's worth it anyways.

It depends if Sakurai wants to show a story at all this time. I mean, the tiny amount of cutscenes in Melee showed nothing of note. Besides the game implying that Giga Bowser is some kind of villain due to appearing in the intro at best.
Anyway, I don't mind all that much. Brawl's story was cool, don't get me wrong, but without any dialogue and the opening cutscene was cut, well... didn't really do much for me. A lot of other games do, mainly due to what I find the most important part, dialogue. Even a Narrator(maybe Crazy Hand speaking?) would've made it more enjoyable for me. Some parts didn't need one, like when Mario, Link, Yoshi, Kirby, and Pit jump down from a cliff. Short, unnecessary. If it's a part that tells a story, the Narration would work great.
Shadow?Combining the Adventure Mode and Event Matches would probably be a good idea - they'd be further divorced from standard matches than the Brawl events, as well as less tedious than Melee's adventure mode by virtue of being broken into separately selectable stages, which would likely have a greater degree of diversity due to their increased number and decreased length.
...I think SSB4 should have a deep, branching storyline, with multiple endings. And it should have lots of Dialogue Trees, and all the characters should have well-developed personalities.

More like "here's my take on one thing", followed by "you disagree with me, clearly you are stupid and your argument is worth nothing" to "why are no one agreeing with me, am I the only intelligent guy here?" to kissing the ass of people agreeing with him.
I'm trying to put it as neutral as I can.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!

I'd rather cutscenes similar to Rosalina and Luma's introductory video over SSE style cutscenes.
