A year dedicated to a character does not count to giving that character the spotlight? Rightio...
Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Luigi U.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMTetra could (and should) play very differently from Zelda/Sheik. Especially the pirate outfit mode.
And I really can't believe we're having an extended discussion about Tingle and characer logos. We really will argue about anything, won't we?
I have a message from another time...![]()
Luigi is the underdog. It's part of his character. He's always going to be that guy second to Mario but who we root for more because we love underdogs.
Why have Tetra when you can have Captain Syrup?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMThe niche is "female pirate" but that doesn't mean you can't have both! ...although if you made me choose one of the two, I'd choose Risky Boots Syrup.
Personally, I root for Luigi because he's got more character than Mario. You wouldn't see Mario roughouse with a ghost dog or almost become the harbinger of the apocalypse or snore.
Well, the answer to that depends entirely on the familarity and preferences of the person being questioned. As an example, I like Tetra's character quite a bit, having played her game a few times. To contrast, I actually haven't played Wario Land, so all I know of Captain Syrup is that she's in that game.
As such, I can't really give an informed answer to that question, now can I?

I have a message from another time...In a roster that has been stated to not be much larger than Brawl's we can't afford to have both.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMI doubt either are going to be added, though.
Unless this is just speculative, theoretical funsies stuffs.

And I haven't played Punch Out. Does that mean I should advocate not having have Little Mac?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMMagcargo Man last page: Yes, I would prefer a clone over Tingle. A clone character is disappointing but at least it's someone I like. I despise Tingle and would be very pleased if he had nothing to do with Smash. There's also the fact that there are far more deserving characters Zelda in my opinion.

I said "As such, I can't really give an informed answer to that question," not "As such, we shouldn't have Captain Syrup."
So, no. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have Little Mac. It just means you wouldn't be the best guy to determine how good a character he'd be.

I have a message from another time...I know squat about Syrup other than she's the closest thing Wario has to a recurring antagonist (albeit, I've heard she's more of an Anti-Hero in Shake-It!).
And I know mostly everything about Tetra, so...
...ah, I guess I'm misreading as much as everyone else. I am dumb today.

I know he reps a new franchise, that said franchise has had a notable presence and effect on people, and that he'd be a unique fighter. I don't need to play Punch Out to know he should be in.
Cool.
Before the topic drifts too much, I'd like to re-affirm that the initial point was simply me not agreeing that Tetra would be a clone.
Anyway, I'd probably advocate the other Toon Zelda, but we've already seen the screenshot that sinks that idea.

I have a message from another time...
I meant Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik would be clones. When I replied to Kostya I put Toon Zelda in bold.
Heck, I think it'd be cool if Ryuta was playable, even though I have never played Ouendan (or Elite Beat Agents).
Anyway, I should probably actually elaborate on why Syrup is a better choice than Tetra:
- Zelda has five characters/four slots in both Melee and Brawl. In Brawl, Wario had one. Adding Syrup causes a series with less reps to get a character.
- Wario Land is neglected in Smash. Wind Waker isn't.
- Captain Syrup adds another villain to the roster, Tetra does not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyM@Kostya: That makes sense. I actually would expect Toon Zelda(with the transformation of Toon Sheik, Tetra, or Phantom Zelda. Any of them are possible) over Tingle. However, I think Tingle is more deserving due to starring in his own games, something only the adult style of Zelda has done. ...In the CD-i games.
The only real difference between Wario and Tingle is their popularity at best. They're Breakout Characters, star in their own series, with multiple unique games. That isn't counting their gameplay styles, moves, and personality(well, Tingle seemed greedy until his origin story gave an excuse for it. Wario's... does not. He just is greedy).
Shadow? If he's not counted as a Zelda character I guess you could sort of justify Tingle. I'd still be really made if he was included instead of...well, just about everyone else.
There will probably be one soon. I don' think we had one in January and they generally have one a month.

He uses his money to pay off his mother's hospital bills.
Phantom Zelda really isn't possible at this point. We've already seen an Assist Trophy Phantom, which kinda puts a nail in that coffin.
I'm not even going to get into the Toon Sheik idea.
Tingle wasn't written as greedy until FSA. He was just a salesman with a youth and fairy obsession in Majora's Mask.

I have a message from another time...That's what I mean, Kostya. He could easily show off his own series. I mean, Mario has 5 characters now, and Wario is not a Mario character for the purpose of Series Representation.
I won't lie, I'd actually pick two. Impa/Vaati for the Zelda series, and Tingle for his own. I do get what you mean, though. I'm not even expecting any new characters related to the Zelda series at this point. It'd be nice, though.
Was FSA before or after WW? Also, it might be possible there's multiple Tingles. The one in Termina is a nice guy, while the ones in regular Hyrule is a greedy bastard. Minish Cap he doesn't seem greedy, at least. But when he does have it, it's justified, which is all I mean.

Shadow?

Year of Luigi very much does not count. That's not Luigi starring in his own series. That's just showing he's important. Also, how do you have the Super Mario Bros. without the other brother?
Tingle and Luigi are terrible comparisons. Tingle is really the Wario of the Zelda series at best. Shows up, does some important stuff, gets popular(to some), stars in his own games(of at least 2 or more are unique gameplay). The only difference is Tingle has less games overall than Wario, although Wario might have just as many unique games. If you count Wario's Woods, that is. Wario Land, Wario World, and Wario Ware do not play the same.
Shadow?
