To be fair, some of them were made up on the spot. Although some were made up well beforehand.
Both Triforce Slashes are clearly made up. Giga Bowser is just a character from the previous game made playable. Mario Finale might be based upon Super Mario RPG's fireball attacks with Mario. I think Peach's might be based upon Super Princess Peach. Falcon's is made up entirely.(it's an easy one to think of, though. Especially since the Mute City stage did the same thing, just not as powerful of an attack) Pikachu's isn't made up, but it is different from how it works in the games, being based upon the game Pulseman. King Dedede's appears to be made up too. I have no idea if Meta Knight's is. Ice Climbers is made up, although an easy one to think of as well. Luigi's appears to be a reference to the Minus World(especially the move name itself), but has some psychological ideas to it.
The rest have traces back to other games. This isn't counting any Smash 4 ones. Switched out FS' or the new characters' ones.

Shadow?I personally feel that most of the made-for-Brawl Final Smashes fit the character they are given to, if nothing else- Mario Finale is derived from the Fire Flower and even resembles two entwined fireballs instead one really huge one, Triforce Slash suits Link as the Goddesses' Hero and a skilled swordsman, etc.
I sure said that!I felt they could've done better for both Links. I get that making all Special Moves the same as is would require a Final Smash they could both use. None of them have something that powerful in common. Bombos, for instance, only technically could be used by Toon Link if you stretch it at best. The ALTTP remake somewhat uses his Toon design more than his old one. Although I wouldn't mind that for both. I do agree Triforce Slash is fitting, though.
I wish Sheik had her own. She has a Harp... why not have something neat based around it? You've got 6 Temples in that game... and the Ice Cavern too.(I think she showed up there as well, but it's been a while)
And yeah, they all are fitting, agreed. Doesn't make them necessarily good, but they work.
Shadow?Eh, making the two Links have the same special moves is overly limiting enough already. At least give them different final smashes. Link can have a series of Skyward Strikes, or that Skyward Strike thing in the Hyrule Warriors trailer. Toon Link can use the Balled of Gales or the Hurricane Spin. Bam.
I have a message from another time...Eh, Masked Dedede... I would want that as an alternate costume. If we're changing Waddle Dee Army, I'd make Dedede's Final Smash into Grand Hammer.
As for Mario Finale, in addition to the above I think it also suits Mario because it
- has decent power
- wide range
- and is easy to use
...all of which suit a beginner character.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI would have posted this earlier, but today I was flying on an airplane for most of the day. A few minutes after leaving the internet, I realized just why Dedede looks so much more expressive in some of the shots: they gave him teeth.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Maybe he wants us to find out when we buy the game?
I dunno why, though. He didn't list any special moves on the site this time. It's also possible they're not all figured out and he wants to wait a bit to show any other ones off. Especially if he might change out some for other kinds of Final Smashes. For whatever reason. Giga Bowser could become a boss again, Palutena could be playable... just two I can think of. Others could be giving Link and Toon Link unique ones. Or remaking other ones. Like Mario Finale might be far stronger or have a better overall range(from the bottom to the top of the screen).
Shadow? That would be really cool if you could get all the 3DS trophies onto the Wii U version and vice-versa. But it seems unlikely, especially for such a small feature.
I wonder, do you think the 3DS version uses the same models the Wii U version uses, just run through a different renderer?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It would be a lot more work to create two separate models just for a different version, so I imagine that's indeed the case.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyYeah, they're probably just rendered in lower quality for the 3DS. What is the graphical power of the 3DS, anyway? I've heard that the original DS line was on par with the N64, except maybe slightly better. Would the 3DS be approaching that of the Game Cube's power, or more or less?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

I wish Peach's Final Smash was something different. You could even have a rain of rainbow-colored lights as a suspiciously-similar move to Geno Blast. Handwave it by saying that Peach is borrowing the power of the Star Sprites, as she does in more than a few games.
I have a message from another time...
