I remember that new Ice Climbers game that came out on the heels of Melee. Yep.
I mean, considering he just had a new game (that sucks) and has a new TV show (that nobody except King Kix watches), I don't see how he could be any more relevant.
But seriously, if you're gonna throw relevancy at us, how do you explain the Ice Climbers? (Aside from already being in the last two games—give an excuse for them being in the series in the first place if relevancy is the be-all end-all.) After all, Pac Man has technically been on pretty much every single Nintendo console (except for the N64 perhaps, and I don't know about the Wii, but maybe), and everyone knows who he is.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.![]()
Ice Climbers are first party, Pac-Man is not. That's why they get priority even though neither are relevant.
I asked this question before, but everyone ignored me: Did anyone have Rosalina on their Bingo Card?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMPersonally, I'd prefer Ms Pac Man to Pac Man, but maybe only because I like the Ms. Pac-Man game better than the original.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Namco-Bandai is still not first party effectively or otherwise.
However, Pac-Man is their main icon. And, you know, is actually relevant. Having a show kind of matters. Ignoring its existence is silly. He's very relevant right now. The other thing is, if they don't have other ideas, I see it as their most likely first choice. I don't expect any Digimon to get in on the Bandai side, and while the other Namco choices are really neat, some more unique than others, Pac-Man does not lack any uniqueness either, so at best he might have a similar move with his ability to eat stuff possibly like Wario, but the rest? Yeah.
I have no doubt in my mind they can easily make him unique and very fun to play with. He has move choices, he's been notable for years, has quite a bit of popularity, is actually quite well known as a gaming icon, especially of the Arcades. I don't see how he lacks a chance whatsoever. And third party would not matter to relevancy either way. Especially not the greatly known icon named Pac-Man.

To be fair, wasn't the Bingo Card thing made after the E3 reveal?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMThe makers of Space Invaders aren't working on the game.
It's not just his perma-relevancy, it's a combination of factors that makes Pac-Man a possibility.
Also don't say that sarcastically, you know Space Invader as a character would be awesome.

"We're home, Chewie."

Because relevancy is the be-all, end-all of roster decisions in a Smash game.
