The wording here is confusing. I don't quite understand. Why does choosing him randomly make him four characters instead of three?

I Was saying that'd she'd only be playable in Smash for being a Shieka, which is only in two games. The majority of Zelda games have her as an old lady.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyM@MM: You can choose to start as 4 characters technically. Pokemon Trainer(who has a Random Pokemon), Squirtle, Ivysaur, or Charizard. It depends who you pick on the slot.
But you can only physically play as one of three characters, Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard. And I get ya, it's a confusing thing. The way Sakurai outright defines it, it's the exact character you play as. 39 total. It does not count Nana, Pokemon Trainer himself, or any Final Smash transformation(like Giga Bowser). So, besides the obvious pictures in each slot, there's also Zero Suit Samus and Sheik, who are part of the exact 39. I apologize for the confusion.

Shadow?RE: Impa: I'm confused. Isn't she just a frail old lady?
(SIDE NOTE: The only exposure I have to Impa is seeing her in the C Di Zelda games.)
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Impa is a recurring name for direct guardians of Zelda descended from the mysterious Shiekah tribe. She's an old lady in the fluff for the first three games and her appearance in LBW, and a rotund middle-aged woman in the Oracle games, but is a fairly harsh-looking middle-aged woman in Ocarina of Time and rather youthful in Skyward Sword.

I sure said that!@MagcargoMan
Yeah, that's the one. It always seemed like Nintendo had always considered it to be Peach's leitmotif, but nobody ever noticed that it kept coming up. Or maybe everyone did, and I'm just an idiot.
@Pulse: That still brings up the question of why people want her so badly as a playable character. That'd be like wanting Dr. Light or Toadsworth or Professor Pickle as a playable character.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.![]()
Yeah, but it's a minor variation on the young woman from SS that's in the Hyrule Warriors trailer.
I'd say she seems like a good base for an Assist.
But I think it's a holdover from when everyone was expecting SS Zelda instead of the mostly-TP composite design we got, and she'd replace Sheik by tagging in and out.

I sure said that!
Granted, it's game based on a series known for Loads And Loads Of Characters, so of course they're gonna use any potential character that could fight for the game.
I'm a little confused here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMDo people really want Impa as a playable character so much as people who want Zelda to stop having Sheik as a down B? It seems whenever Impa is suggested it usually has something to do with Sheik. (I'd figure Zero Suit would a more obvious target, and I say that as someone who likes the stealth section of Metroid: Zero Mission)

Metroid is not in any position to have cuts. Even if Metroid got a new rep, it should not get a cut.

Meh. I don't really see why this is necessary.
So, time for an update on my alternate costumes list. Here I'm only listing new additions/changes I made. For any of the old ones that haven't changed, go here
.
Costumes:
- Rosalina & Luma - ??? (Fu...)
- Donkey Kong - Funky Kong (Donkey Kong doesn't really have many options, so I think it's okay to resort to making him another character for his alt; it certainly helps he's an Ensemble Dark Horse. As I've said before, I don't want to give him on of the Mario Party 2 costumes as they are equally related to all 6 Mario Party 2 characters and each of the 5 costumes is equally important. Also, simply slapping Boxing Gloves on him is not different enough.)
- Zelda - Either Skyward Sword Zelda (who I still think would look weird in Smash) or Link to the Past Zelda
◊ (which I think would be kinda cool.)
- Mega Man - Rock
Hoo boy; controversy time...
- Fox - Falco
I know before I said I made it in jest, but now I realise it's probably the best choice. Besides the fact that there isn't really much options (No to Expert Mode Shades; simply adding sunglasses isn't different enough. And really Assault Attire is similar clothes and sorta different face), it also helps deal with the roster conundrum were having for Star Fox reps.
The thing is, with both the fact that the roster is not gonna be much larger than Brawl's and that four characters for a franchise with six games is definitely overrepping, we can't afford to have too many Star Fox characters. Adding Krystal is a must for adding a unique fighter (staff wielder) and non-clone Star Fox character. The means either Falco or Wolf has to be cut, and out of the two, Wolf is less of a clone, has more potential to be decloned, and is another villain, which Smash is in short supply of. It helps that Falco's a clone, and had the exact same moves in Melee, so it's not like he's never played like that before. And even with his Brawl differences, he still fills the same niche as Fox as a fast, comboing, zoning character.
By making Falco an alt for Fox, not only do we keep the villain, add a newcomer, make the Star Fox roster more diverse and keep the series from being overrepped, but people still get to technically play as Falco; so he gets cut but his fans don't entirely miss out on him. Maybe even give him his own voice clips.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMI don't buy it. I would gladly take any random bounty hunter as a tradeoff for Zero Suit Samus or even a character from a different series (Miss Fit seems like a good enough replacement to me), since it only exists for Fanservice, which is hilarious because Sora completely did it wrong.
At least with Zelda and Sheik there is nothing to suggest they could not be equals (the difference is little more than just a change in clothing). Zero suit has nothing in Metroid games to justify its use in Smash Bros...it makes it grand debut as Samus's death animation and even when playable the only thing it is capable of injuring is itself. I could see if it was used as a joke or maybe even in a fanservice scene akin to the Metroid's endgame win screens but putting it on equal footing with Samus is a step too far. That would be like Olimar without Pikmin, The Pokemon Trainer without Pokemon or Pit As An Eggplant somehow being equally viable...the morph ball would be a more convincing alternate form, there at least was a game about it kicking ass.
Sakurai could turn Zero Suit into a skin ala Justin Bailey (guess he could make Brycen Man from Poke star playable too) but why? He did not go so far against any other character's defining gimmick. In the crossover people kind of come to see the characters as they know them. If Brawl really needed someone to shake their latex covered ass at the camera they could have just used someone known for that kind of thing, or maybe have just made one up and said "future release/Japan only".
Dropping Falco? I guess I would not mind too much but like with Sheik, I still find Zero Suit being far more jarring. Falco's at least been playable in more or less equal standing to Fox three times outside of Super Smash Bros.
Buldogue's lawyer

No clue.
Some are guessing Nayru or an OC.
