So what abilities did Impa show in Skyward Sword?

Oh please no not this again.

The "The Phantom must be a move of Zelda's!" thing is really getting out of hand, I think.

You know, I don't I've ever seen you address the "Phantom is realistic like Zelda rather than being Toon style" point.

Even Bowser's new stance and Pit's Upperdash Arm were noted at the time or shortly thereafter.

Only because he talked about them in the Smash Direct.

Even Toon Link is more "realistic" than actual Toon Link. It's more about art style, in which the Phantom is mostly consistent.

Well I wasn't here for most of that. Plus, doesn't Sakurai consider Zelda and Sheik two different slots already?

No.

He considers them two different characters. Slots is their position on the Screen. And they always shared the same slot. Despite being separate characters.

Slots =/= Characters. He never ever called her a separate slot at any time, and only referred to her as a separate character when he said there was 39 playable characters in Brawl. That includes all the transformations(but not Final Smashes, since that would count Giga Bowser, who would make 40 playable unique characters).

It's the other way around. Sheik is an alter ego of Zelda, but takes up a separate slot.

[up][up][up]Can we stop being pedantic about word choice? I use the two terms interchangeably, you don't. That's fine, we don't have to go on rants every time someone's personal definitions don't match up.

Incorrect. Slots are spaces used on the Select Screen. Zelda/Sheik has always shared a slot.

Characters, they way Sakurai used it specifically(as in the context), is referring to each individual fighter. Zelda and Sheik are two separate characters, but share the same slot(and well, always have).

Albeit, I do believe "slot" is a fanterm, but Sakurai still has not used it to mean the total list of characters, because he hasn't used it at all. The term slot sometimes is used as a synonym for character. Others have used to be the square used for a character portrait, and could have at least up to "4" characters per slot.(technically 3 in the case of Pokemon Trainer, but you could randomly get one if you chose him instead of the 3 Pokemon. You only play with 3 Pokemon, not literally as the Trainer himself, which makes it somewhat confusing.)

[up][up][up][up][up][up][up]Only in Brawl. In Smash 4, although he's not Cel-shaded, Toon Link still has solid colours. Meanwhile, Phantom doesn't. He looks all realistic.

And honestly, replacing Sheik with Impa is change for the sake of change. It's also a case of adding someone simply because they are in the newest game, because nobody ever requested Impa before Skyward Sword, even though she was a Sheika in Ocarina of Time.

Actually, I know somebody who did want Impa since Brawl. So... eh.

I agree, though. I see no reason to replace Sheik. Impa's more than good enough to get her own slot anyway.

I want to make it clear that the only context in which I ever said I'd want SS Impa in the game is if they used SS Zelda's design for Zelda this time. They have not, so it will be Sheik.

The only hope Impa has for inclusion now is if they removed Sheik from being part of Zelda's moveset, which I find very unlikely indeed.

[up][up][up]I meant a notable amount of people. I've never seen anyone request her before SS.

[up]Why does the style matter? Who's to say they can't make a design for Sheik that matches SS Zelda if they wanted too?

[up][up] The only Impa I honestly like is the Oracles version, anyway(at first). Although I do like her Hyrule Warriors appearance. Having swift sword attacks as a ninja hasn't been done yet in Smash. In the sense of how Jago works in Killer Instinct.

And I disagree. She can have many unique moves while being her own slot.

[up] Wasn't specified. But hey, that's why I prefer not to use "Nobody" unless I literally meant that. But anyway. And I agree, the style is irrelevant. Just choose one, making an unique moveset, and go from there.

Impa actually appears in a lot of Zelda games, both recently and quite a ways back, and is significant in all of those. Sheik appears in only in one game.

If Skyward Sword did not have a retconing role in the Zelda "timeline" it probably would have had a much more positive reception, and calls for some kind of Super Smash Bros representation this trailer alone.

Remember when Impa was just an old lady who Link saved off screen?

Edit:Who actually calls that game Legend Of Zelda I? Really?

Yes, MM, she is. They showed a video or pictures of her. I forget which. She has a sword with a rounded handle. I think that everyone may just be a gameplay clone, though. Lots of sword attacks, spin attack, etc. Doesn't mean anything Smash-wise, of course.

[up][up] It's a namespace problem. It's the first game, so has a 1 on the end of it. The basic name is used for the entire franchise as a whole. It's also easier when Main/TheLegendOfZelda and VideoGame/TheLegendOfZelda are the same thing and it confuses less people.

I never wanted to imply Impa being a Sheikah in a lot of the games. I only ever meant that if Zelda was Skyward Sword Zelda this time, they could use Skyward Sword Impa. She is not, so there we go.

I think Impa was usually a Sheikah, but in the games pre-Ocarina, she'd usually been serving the royal family for a long time and is now too old to fight, so that's why she goes out to find Link in the first game.

Honestly, Zelda and Impa were simply spotted. Note that I don't know if this was some fake or not. I think that was from some trailer or whatever.
