I really can't believe the discussion for the last three pages has been about this.
I think y'all might be forgetting that canonicity to the games doesn't really matter in Smash (e.g. the MOTHER characters, the way most of the Pokemon moves work, Kirby apparently having several copy abilities simultaneously). So I don't think any of these explanations posed have any real basis to them.
Either way, if they made such a drastic change with a character that's already a two-time veteran, I'd think they'd state it rather than just shoving it into the character pictures (which are usually meant to just look either humorous or badass, and not to be overanalyzed by obsessive nerds on the internet).

While that's not impossible, I think it's more plausible that it's an unrelated attack whose animation is being used for comic/dramatic effect in those screenshots, alongside other elements.
It looks mot like either her standing jab or forward smash. More like the forward smash than the standing jab.
I have a message from another time...I really can't believe you think making your text realy small means people won't notice what you say.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMI only made it small so people don't only focus on it and make a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be. I'm trying to at least be slightly tactful in expressing my frustration.
I'm curious, are there any franchises with characters that we've had revealed that haven't had any stages shown off yet?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. It's definitely an independent attack: she's doing the same thing here.
It's why I think it's a semi-independent summon/move.

Let's see: No Pokémon stage, no Donkey Kong stage, no Star Fox stage, no Kirby stage.

Yeah, Occam's Razor and all that.
We've seen a handful of screenshots depicting a stage based on the ruin areas from DKCR, on the 3DS version.
After looking at the screenshot that's caused us all so much grief, I've gotta say... The Phantom has kinda stumpy legs.

I sure said that!^^^ The way most moves work in fighting games that involve summoning another character. The character does stuff, but only have a specific move/purpose, and does that while the actual character is free to do what they want.
This is in contrast to more autonomous summons, like Luma, which while under the control of the player are still more detached from the base character.

Yeah, the description of the first thing is actually the more autonomous character. Which is to say, independent of direct control.
That's really ot what "autonomous" means. You'd be more accurate with a word like "diverse" or "multifaceted"? ..."Diverse", more likely.

That is not a DKCR stage. I have cleared Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii 200% and am up to level 9-9 on the 3DS version. The cave levels do not look like that. The ruin levels do not look that.
How the heck does freakin' everyone get this wrong? I see everyone say this. It's like they all haven't played DKCR in five years or something.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMNot entirely - it's not really doing it's own thing, but rather continuing out a single move.
A better way to put it would be to say that it's a move that still goes on while the player character is free to move. Referring to it as a "summon" was probably a mistake on my part.

Well if it was summoned by Zelda it wouldn't have eyes, since she wouldn't be inside it, but it would still be under her control (explaining pink).
Either that or the assist trophy was blinking in that particular shot.
