Even so, I don't see where it's written a franchise should have four at most. Having five Mario characters isn't as much of a stretch as everyone says it is.

I get the feeling that people just want to add every newcomer to that trope.
How the hell is Dr Mario NOT a Base Breaker?

I'm not okay with that. Wii Fit Trainer is the most original idea for a character in Smash since Pokemon Trainer and Mr Game and Watch.
They hate her because she's not Shulk/Ridley/Little Mac etc. Shallow reasons like "The character I want hasn't been revealed yet, clearly it's Wii Fit Trainer's fault".

Agreed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMI can't speak for Magcargo, but I think we love hr inclusion for the same reason. She's such a bizarre choice, if you had told me she would be in before I wouldn't have believed you. That's what makes her so great. She opens up the board so everyone is possible. She makes crazy ideas possible, and it's super cool.
Also she just looks fun to play as.

Exactly. It's so unexpected and fighting with Yoga poses is so original.
And it's true that it does open the door to a lot more characters. Because of her I have an idea for an equally random and unexpected character for a series I initially only wanted a stage from.

I disagree. Every major franchise should have several characters.
