[up]x3 Except they aren't. Pit is just turned around facing right and Villager is just doing an "idle position" facing left.

It could just be a developer's thing. They can turn characters around with the coding, even if it's not possible in gameplay.

I still think it might be more of a boss than a Stage Hazard due to this, though.

I would think that if it wasn't for the characters having fighting positions and idle animations would cause the same effect if timed right for a snapshot.

I think they're turned way too far for that to work, though. They seem a bit too impossible for that. I could be wrong, though.

Pit looks like he's in the middle of a braking animation, which I believe can happen from either side.

I'm not sure what's going on with Villager, but Villager is weird. Maybe it's part of a taunt?

That just looks like a part of Villager's idle animation facing left. He stands at an angle, doesn't he? I remembwr one thing he'd do is turn his head slightly and scratch behind his ear. Like a monkey.

So because of that I'm leaning a little more towards stage hazard now...

I kind of wish they just took a shot of the Yellow Devil flying in from the background instead of just having two characters "face" the Wily Fortress and say that's what happens.

And again, there's just two characters in the screenshot ("Let's not zoom out to show the whole stage or anything"), so I'm still iffy on whether or not the Yellow Devil is just a stage hazard or a boss (though I'm leaning towards both at once). Though to be honest, I don't think it matters really.

If you look closely, you can actually see a small Yellow Devil to the left of the large radio tower that sits to the left of the skull.

I find the fact that the Yellow Devil is in the exact same NES-emulating pose when far in the background is hilarious.

Ah. I only saw the Miiverse post and it just looked like a yellow light or something else attached to the Fortress to me. It's a lot easier to see on the Smash page.

I wonder what the chances are that it'll say "BUMO!"...

I honestly think it's just a stage hazard. That pose the Villager is in looks like his idle (I've seen him do the ear scratch thing from the front).

Are stage hazards normally that gigantic?

[up]There are two platforms that appear at the sides of the stage, so the arena is larger than it appears.

Notice how the platforms are still there even without the rails? I remember someones saying that the rails not being present in the screenshot with Sonic and Mega Man fighting the Yellow Devil meant the platforms weren't there, but this screen clearly shows the platforms are still present even without the rails.

Spear Pillar's stage hazards can take up literally a third of the stage. They can get pretty huge.

It's only Dialga who ever steps into the foreground, though, and then only for about a second.

Unless you're talking about the lasers?

The lasers are never present for very long, and they give ample warning. The Yellow Devil, on the other hand, is absolutely huge and very fast, and seems to be around for a while.

I sure said that!

Well, I guess from what we've seen so far, I could see him being a hazard - he appears in the background, assembles in the foreground, does that dismantling and reassembling attack we saw last week, and then leaves. But, whatever he is, I still hope we get some bosses...

How about a game mode that makes Smash fully 3D, instead 2.5D? Also, how about a Super Smash Bros. RPG?

[up]Smash's gameplay isn't suited for 3D. The closest you'll ever get is probably Kid Icarus Uprising.

As for a Smash RPG... that should be left to the fans.tongue

[up][up] Sakurai's already commented on the whole Smash 3D thing. It's not happening.

Also, it's not 2.5D. It's 2D gameplay with 3D graphics.

2.5D is like DKCR, where you move across multiple planes of a 2D field.

A Paper Mario style Smash Bros. would be the best thing ever.

[up]Actually it isn't. 2.5D originally refereed to games like Doom, using sprites to give the impression of depth. Nowadays it tends to be used for games that use polygonal models but still take place on an x and y axis.
