I dunno, it just seems like the thing you do where only the default has palettes and the alt stands out.
Plus most fighting games that have alt costumes and palette swaps usually don't give the alts palette swaps.

It's just that I see others in the thread spoiler that, so I assumed it was the thing to do.
I do agree with that sentiment though. It's pretty obvious "Marth" is a she the first time you see her.
Kinda like how how the characters in Superman can't figure out Clark Kent is Superman when all he does is put on a pair of glasses and some formal clothing.

If they are, it's not particularly well hidden. It's like trying to hide the fact that Sheik is female in the 3DS version of Ocarina
◊.
If anything, it's supposed to be a surprise to the characters, but not the player. Because they do a terrible job disguising the voice. As in, they don't really do it at all.
The consensus was made in the Fire Emblem thread a long time ago that her name wasn't much of a spoiler, since knowing it gives you exactly no information about her until The Reveal anyway.

Thank you.
YMMV. It looks dodgy where the eye mask meets the hair.
◊ There's something not quite right about the shirt either.
Look, than point I was making is that if Mr L was designed for a 3D Mario game in the first place it would have looked better on him in Smash, because Mr L was designed for a Luigi who had a completely different artstyle.
I really thought I was the only one who felt that way about a Mr L costume.

It is indeed well made. I just find something iffy about it.

Thanks for the feedback, Classic.
Darn that's cool. Sadly I don't think Sakurai would go for something that obscure for a costume.
Assualt Fox looks more diverse from Smash Fox, so it would be better than Adventures Fox in my opinion.
You mean this?
◊ That's awful. It feels like they made him look more like Lucina body-wise because it it was pretty darn obvious Lucina wasn't Marth, gave him a face and hairstyle that looks weird(er than Brawl Marth), and clothes that don't work on Marth as well as they do on Lucina.
Speaking of which, I wish the DLC characters taht got artwork had it done in the same style as the main cast. It would have been cool to see Ike in that style instead of the kinda weird version we got.
◊
Oh that's cool. But so is Ordon Link from a design perspective. Hmm...
Gah, this makes me wish they could have more than one alt costume.

Oh...
Unacceptable. I get the logic behind your reasoning for Pikachu/Jigglypuff, but Lucario actually has palette swaps.
Byrne falls into the one-shot characters category.
EDIT: Oh you meant as a boss not a playable character. Nevermind.
Yeah that works.
It doesn't have to make sense if it's an alt costume.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMYeah, I got it after posting. Blame tired-brain.
But there should be some kind of internal logic to the alt costumes. Just because they're alternate doesn't mean they don't have to make sense.
Personally, I think it'd be funny if ZSS's alt was the pink bikini and green hair from the original Reveal.
I'd prefer a less-revealing one than the original bikini since that would look sorta awkward, but that's the general idea, making ZSS's alternate be one of the fast-ending suits from the original, Super, or Fusion (Fusion makes the most thematic sense if the Fusion Suit is the alt, but Super's is a better design for it since it's not that different from the Zero Suit).

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'd hope not. After what they did with the artstyle in New Island, I'm now wanting Yarn Yoshi much more as my upcoming Yoshi game of choice.
Sorry, I meant to reply to this before but kept getting sidetracked.
I feel he doesn't fit in with the Mario series concept or design-wise (he works in RPG because of it's style). Concept: He's a space entity possessing a doll. Not a bad concept but doesn't sound like a Mario one. Design-wise, he's clearly a Square character; he'd fit in far more in a Dragon Quest or a cartoony Final Fantasy than he would in a new Mario game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMIn both the original and 3DS version of Ocarina, Sheik is supposed to look androgynous, but in the 3DS version, Sheik is more obviously feminine (similar to the Smash version of Sheik). I don't think either version was trying to hide Sheik's gender though; they were mostly trying to hide the fact that Sheik was Zelda herself, and not just some new character introduced just for Ocarina.
There's an entire debate about whether or not Zelda is male while she is Sheik, but I feel that it's an unimportant detail not worth bringing up in this thread (particularly because Smash Bros considers Sheik to be female anyway, as far as this thread is concerned).

People argue about that?
Honestly, as someone who has never played Ocarina Of Time, I never quite understood the hubub around that.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I've played the game and I've really never understood why it's such a hot button issue. I assume it's because Princess Ruto refers to Sheik as male after you beat the Water Temple, but that's the only instance in that game where Sheik's gender is referred tonote . In Smash, she's directly referred to as female, and I think that just brought on the argument back in full force.
You can mosey on over to our Ocarina Headscratchers page to get a snippet of the debate, but overall, it's such a minor detail about the character and it really has no effect on anything in the game (and is never brought up again).

I'm pretty sure this is on Enlong's list of topics we must never bring up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMI'm just explaining the situation to people who are unaware of it. I feel saying "don't ask" without explanation is kind of rude.
An Assist Trophy though... That may work better for Geno.
Not sure how they'd work in the whole "Get the baby back now or you're dead" mechanic, though, considering the lack of stars to add to the timer and what it would mean for Yoshi's player.
You mean they didn't change it at all, practically?
