I always thought Star Punch could be an Up B move and he could gain stars as a special mechanic to increase recovery and knockback.

My idea to do it might be too complicated though.

[up][up]I kind of imagined Little Mac working like that, though he was somewhat of a reverse-Lucario in my mind, becoming harder to kill as the match progresses, as opposed to Lucario just becoming stronger.

Since part of Mac's character is that he's a small guy going up against larger foes, he'd start off pretty frail, not being able to take too much before he could be sent flying. By generating Star Power (preferably up to three), he'd bolster his defense (to about mid-weight like Mario, maybe slightly lighter), speed, and recovery as the match progresses, allowing him to survive long enough to ensure he could regularly KO opponents. He'd only lose his Star Power if he KO's a fighter with the Star Punch, which would be one of his specials in this case, rather than losing them if he's KO'd.

I'd rather he'd not get stronger offensively if he had this mechanic though, since his needing to whittle opponents down with his weaker punches is a big part of the gameplay in the Punch-Out games and he'd always have to work harder to KO his opponents than they would to KO him.

Anyway, I think the Villager's weird rocket thing could still serve as a form of horizontal recovery, sort of like Luigi's Missile special.

Anom: That would be a more compelling argument if Pikachu's Final Smash wasn't just Volt Tackle, Ike's wasn't Aether (or an Aether analogue) and Marth's wasn't just a plain old critical hit.

Hmmm...I wonder if Villager's item-and-projectile grabbing ability might just be activated through the regular grab button.

Otherwise, I have difficulty seeing how they would fit all the abilities we've seen him use without any changes in the control scheme; we've seen what's pretty clearly his entire ground A-moveset, plus the fireworks, bowling ball, axe, tree planting, lloid rocket, balloon helmet, shovel, and grab. That's one too many to be covered by his smash and special movesets...

Ike's not a very good example, there. Plain old Aether (as plain-old as Aether gets, anyway) is a special move, and it apparently needed scaling up to be a Final Smash.

It has a flashier animation, but it's essentially the same thing.

If Palutena becomes a playable character, what will Pit's Final Smash be?

Clearly Little Mac's Final Smash should be spontaneously turning into Mike Tyson and biting off everyone's ears, licensing fees be damned.

Pit looks like he's getting the Three Sacred Treasures as a new Final Smash, given that they've vanished from his basic moveset. I'm hoping that means Palutena is in, but you can never say.

(Palutena's Final Smash would be her Goddess Glamblaster obviously)

I'd say it should be the Great Sacred Treasure considering how fragile the Three Sacred Treasures prove to actually be in the game.

@Moth: Huh, you think? You think Palutena getting in would mean Medusa could too? Or would that make it less likely?

Hey, despite having degraded a bit with age, they're still fine enough to survive anything short of Hades' attacks. Especially the Mirror Shield. Blocks everything. It's really more of a testament to how overwhelmingly powerful Hades is.

Oh, it just occurred to me, you think it's possible that the Villager can't jump? You can't in their games. (I'm not sure if they've showed him jumping or not.)

Pretty sure he's been seen jumping. Even still, no offense, it'd be kinda stupid if he couldn't, considering literally everyone else can. If you really wanna get technical, Captain Falcon can't walk in his games, but he can walk just fine here.

Except in Zelda II, where he can. [lol]

But just about everyone can jump here and there. A tiny amount of exceptions.

According to Miiverse he is an Assist Trophy, not a character. I repeat, not a character - only those announced on the official site are characters.

Strange way to put it. Even if I'm paraphrasing.

Oh, really?

Hm... he doesn't belong on Skyloft, technically, so he's not a stage hazard. There's not big NEWCOMER thing, so that's right out.

So yeah, I'm thinking Assist Trophy. Perhaps he causes random transformative effects, like shrinking or growing or turning into metal. Or maybe he drops he moon somehow.
