That's how I've always seen it, personally, even though I prefer Brawl over Melee.
It's just that "Stop Having Fun" Guys is seen as so prevalent within the Smash fandom that people automatically assume that any sort of "clinging to the past" that's done on the fanbase's part is seen as a giant middle finger to everyone else that "enjoys the games for what they are".
Also, I was never interested in Project M because I never thought I'd be able to play it, but now I'm intrigued.

The concept of Project M doesn't bother me, but the elitist "We made a superior game to Brawl because we're totally not modest about our own work and also rank it on subjective matters" and "lol who plays brawl, play Project M or you're a newb" attitudes aggravate me.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Not much to do, yes. Generic, no. It doesn't look like any Space Station I've ever seen.
Agreed. Definitely.
That really bugged me. It's sorta just there, you know? They could have done something fun with it.

Yes, this. I forgot where it was but on game site where there a comments, on an article about Smash 4, someone was saying they weren't too sure about Brawl (or Smash 4, I forget), and wanted to try Melee.
Then one of the guys who worked on Project M commented, and said something like "I'd hate to self promote, but you should try out Project M" He also had the nerve to say they were doing some things they said were more interesting than Smash 4 was doing. How humble.
Screw Project M anyway. At least Balanced Brawl doesn't go all like "lol Brawl sux, Melee rules. Make Brawl Melee" and actually respects it. And stating your own fan project to be more interesting than what the actual real next game is doing really sounds like a case of shilling something just because you made it.
Can't Lumas fly though space by themselves anyway?
Melee Peach's Castle and Delphino Plaza were awesome. Half-hearted? Slapped together? What?
Is there a mod for it or something?
And what is Nintendo ELU, Irene?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMThe official Wii EULA(spelt it wrong earlier, my bad) is that you cannot put anything onto your system not approved by Nintendo itself. Nothing "third party" without their approval. This is why things like Action Replay actually aren't allowed on it, and they did it legally with this clause.
Nintendo always had a hatred for cheat devices, but the best reason to do this again was to prevent online cheating. Which is really seriously justified.(never mind that they can block people online for cheating, which I think is the better option, but eh)
Shadow?@27490: They stated, sadly, that they wouldn't be backporting characters from the new game or any characters that Smash hasn't used yet, due to the legal troubles and not wanting to give off the impression that they're trying to bat at Nintendo.
What they mean is that the stage has deaths that aren't cause by the player...
I'm mean, they butchered Rumble Falls and Green Hill Zone. All you had to do with Rumble Falls was get rid of the cheap spike of death, and maybe make the layout at some bits less huddled, but no.
Not to mention, their version of Pokemon Stadium 2 doesn't even have transformations, when that's kind the whole idea of that stage. And naturally they let the Melee Pokemon Stadium keep them...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMDoes the demographic that the project is aiming for want to have deaths that aren't caused by the players themselves?
Furthermore, it's already mentioned right in its description that said version of Stadium 2 ended up being a fan-favorite, as opposed to the Melee stage which retained the gimmick.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyNo, but my point was with the "However, we believe that Smash is a fun enough game on its own" bit. There's a subtle hint of them implying something there. It's like what Anom said about how they "rank [Project M] on subjective matters".
Doesn't change the fact that they drain the Brawl version of it's gimmick. Also, the fact that the fans seem to have a problem with a gimmick as simple as a layout change also speaks volumes.
It's nice but they should have at least kept the rising lava.

That's what I don't get. They even have a problem with curved ground.
And Enlong, what did you mean by this
?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMI took me a minute to realize they ousted the Trainer for having his Pokemon be separated, which makes me wonder if there were really that many folks that couldn't work with the Trainer's gimmick.
Glad to see they brought Mewtwo in at least. So far it doesn't look like they're missing anyone that isn't new to the 4th game. All in all though, I think I'd just stick with the official games; stage gimmicks are one of my favorite parts of the franchise.

Yeah, but those were stopped by Square-Enix, not Nintendo, and they happened supposedly because the creator of Chrono Trigger is ridiculously possessive of the series.
