Most of the Project M alternate costumes were fairly intuitive choices, but I really didn't see this one

Heh, Virtual Boy R.O.B. It's funny because nobody liked the Virtual Boy system, right?
Actually, is that even true? I know it's clearly unpopular, but it probably has some fans. Plus, not all of its games were terrible, as people still say Wario Land was good.
I'd say the reason to leave the costume out is that Nintendo wasn't proud of the VB. That seems a pretty fair reason to avoid acknowledging it. Old Shame and all.
Shadow?Oh, but they still acknowledge it. It's a furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and a hat in Streetpass Mii Plaza. I think it also has a cameo in Game & Wario, in (naturally) 9-Volt's room.
I like the idea of Virtual Boy R.O.B.. It's creative and, well, you have to get creative to make an alt for R.O.B..

Doesn't matter why. So yeah, it's not universally disliked, as I said.
But Nintendo isn't proud of it, so avoiding referencing it is very much justified.
Not very much, though. You gotta admit, they barely show it off at all. It's also odd they're doing so in the first place, but maybe they realized that it's still part of their history and people know about it anyway, so who cares?

Shadow?Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
"Yeah, we screwed up, but it's still a part of our company's history. That, and it looks cool. Goggles are cool."
(Even though it isn't actually VR goggles but it looks cooler that way)
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaOn the plus side, if you're a game collector, the VB makes it easy to say you have the entire library from a game system
It doesn't need to have a noticeable number of fans. A lot of people can appreciate a reference for ironic purposes. Does that count as having fans?
"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"How often do people literally mean 'nobody likes 'X'"? I thought that there was typically an unspoken 'just about' or 'practically' that was usually attached to the idea where, sure, there's probably fans of pretty much everything if you look hard enough, but when you get right down to it that number is so negligible that it doesn't really matter.
As a collectible I'm sure lots of people (myself included) like it.
For how much it causes headaches to people, the physical console itself has some degree of nostalgia to it. I can't tell why, considering almost no one grew up and looked back saying "I loved that thing"... maybe the way it was designed had some sort of retro charm to it?

If you're going to make a generalization, you'd better back it up or shut up.
Generalizations are terrible arguments and should not exist ever. So yes, it damn well does matter. Don't say something if you actually want people take what you say seriously.
VR games were very rare at the time. And costly. Some might think that having one in general is awesome. Best I can think of, if they don't specifically like the game, that is.

Shadow?
I don't think this came anywhere near an argument. Seemed more like a discussion about the Virtual Boy.
But yeah, we're veering a bit from the Smash Bros. side of things so my final opinion is that the Virtual Boy is worthy of being referenced nostalgically, even if most people didn't like playing the games themselves (someone, somewhere had to of liked playing games. They must have been ridiculously headache prone).

It is always like that no matter what. Generalizations are bad statements under all conditions. Because they're never actually true.
Don't make them unless you want to start a debate on factual claims. Next time just say it was unpopular and leave it at that. Otherwise it's your own fault for starting a shitfest and nobody else's for calling out your poorly said statement.
I'd sooner say anybody who makes a generalization is just plain trolling and should never do so. It doesn't do anything good for anyone as is. Most people don't like playing it, the first true thing said about who actually likes it or not. At least we know that throughout history.

Shadow?

This guy on Smashboards had an idea for an Event Match where you play as Bowser Jr, and you have to paint Peach's castle before someone stops you. I'm thinking that the paint brush could be a weapon like the Flower, and every time you struck someone, the paint becomes heavier with each strike.
