VGm was joking about people who confuse the names of characters with the titles of their games. I don't think he was being serious.
I, however, was being serious with mine; I never heard of Samus having a crew before.

That reminds me: once me and my brother were playing Brawl, and my little sister was watching (she's about 7). I was jokingly playing as Ganondorf, and she asked "Is Ganondorf from Link?"
My brother and I laughed.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaIn Metroid Prime 3, Samus is hired alongside 3 other bounty hunters to work for the Galactic Federation. While they cooperate and provide support for each other, they are all equal under the GF's admiral, and no one is in charge of the others. And aside from a short scene where one of her fellow bounty hunters briefly jumps on its roof, no one else but Samus rides the Gunship. Samus can deliver commands to her ship, but that's done through the ship's computer.
At certain times in MP 3, Samus also works together with GF soldiers, for example she protects a crew of demolition troopers. However, she is never "in charge" of the soldiers. They have a mission to carry out the demolition while she's tasked to defend them.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!I'm a little late, mind if I do a bit of fun with the "alternate skins" idea?
- Mario - Dr. Mario
- Luigi - Mr. L
- Peach - Her biking bodysuit from Mario Kart Wii
- Bowser - Dry Bowser
- Olimar - Louie
- Mega Man - Proto Man
- Samus - Her original suit - the one without the huge shoulder pads.
- Zero Suit Samus - The leotard she wears in the second run-through if you beat the first run fast enough.
- Pit - If she isn't her own character, Phosphora (who is Pit's opposite number in Viridi's army, and who has several similar attacks).
- Sonic - Tails
- Donkey Kong - Chunky Kong
- Pikachu - Any one of the Pikaclones that have been introduced since Gen I (Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, Dedenne - the latter is the one I'd pick as most likely).
- Link - Zora Link from Majora's Mask. (I'd say Fierce Deity, but that's closer to a simple palette swap).
- Toon Link - The pajamas. Failing that... Toon Skull Kid wearing Majora's mask.
- Fox - Slippy (in no small part for humor value).
- Kirby - Waddle Doo (if his eye is also his mouth... oh, hey, Nightmare Fuel!).
- Olimar - Louie.
For characters yet to be confirmed...
- Lucario - Mewtwo (if Mewtwo was just an alt skin for Lucario, just imagine the Intarwebs the next day - it'd be trolling at its most glorious).
- Zelda - Midna
- Sheik - True Midna
- Ganon - Zant (though his Final Smash should look exactly the same, as it too gets Hijacked by Ganon).
- Ness - Poo or Paula (Sorry, but Ninten is too similar in design).
- Lucas - Kumatora
- Pokemon Trainer - his female counterpart from FireRed/LeafGreen.
- Squirtle - Totodile
- Ivysaur - Bayleef
- Charizard - Typhlosion (though replace Fly with Flare Blitz - which is admittedly a bredding move, but still on the list).
- Ice Climbers - cargo shorts and Hawaiian shirts (I really can't think of a game-appropriate alt for them, so might as well go for humor).
- Meta Knight - Knuckle Joe
- King Dedede - an ambulatory miniature Whispy Woods (given that we're talking about Sakurai here, the lack of ambulatory trees seems odd).
- Yoshi - Birdo.
- Captain Falco - Samurai Goro.
- Falco - Peppy.
- Mr. Game & Watch - Um... guess you could just use different G&W sprites.
- Marth (and by extension, Roy and Ike) - I never played Fire Emblem, so I'll just trust the judgment of others familiar with the series.
- Wolf - Leon.
- Diddy Kong - Donkey Kong Jr.
- R.O.B. - Virtual Boy (as confusing as that sounds, yes).
- Jigglypuff - Clefairy.
- Snake - Raiden. In fact, Raiden should be the default, and there should be an onerous unlock to get Snake, just because it'd be funny.

Samus has a ship and crew, and we never call HER captain.
