If they really wanted to troll everyone, they'd just take Sonic out and replace him with Big. In order to promote their final Nintendo exclusive Sonic game, Big the Cat's Dating Simulator, of course. (A Nintendo rep told me at Comic Con, so it must be true
)
@Irene: My mistake, I didn't see that you commented on that. My bad. Also, if I recall correctly, Sonic The Fighters was an arcade exclusive.
And besides, I was suggesting the Wisps as items, not as a final smash. I don't know where anyone got that idea from.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. Not so sure about as part of Sonic's moveset, since I'm not entirely sure how well that'd work, but I'd be cool with it being an assist trophy. Perhaps when the Wisps come up, it's a random one that does its power on its own? And since the priority of the Smash games is the first-party characters, it might just be one of a select few. Hopefully not Spike Wisp if they limit them, since I've never been a fan of that one. Rocket and Laser seem like they'd have the best chances, with Rocket charging up and then smashing into whoever is above them (I suppose like Olimar's ship in reverse?), and Laser ricocheting all around the screen or bouncing around the area it's in, hitting whatever is in its path.
Also, you know what would be cool? If on the Sonic stage[s] they rendered the item boxes as the TVs or whatever you call thems from the Sonic games that hold items
I doubt they'd go that extra mile, but hey, I can wish.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I don't think there are any pure stationary item boxes. But they had the random Red/Green/Blue Boxes where Caps would normally be on Peach's Castle(Melee), so they could sometimes show up as well. Especially if you have containers marked off.
And considering Sonic often uses the Wisps, I think he could reference them in someway. Like his Dash Attack could go into Crimson Eagle, a simple fiery dash similar to Kirby's Melee Dash.(but still his own animation) His Forward Smash A punch could actually be electrified, if only to make it not terribly generic. I could see the Bounce Attack as well, possibly with a watery noise or a temporary shield goes up based upon the Water Shield. It's hard to say.
Shadow? For the record, i'm pretty sure Sonic's moves also take inspiration from Virtua Fighter, so his moves don't even all come from his own series.
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!Sonic the Fighters was first revived on the GC (in North America and Japan) and PS 2 (in Europe and Japan) game "Sonic Gems Collection." The point being to revive obscure titles with Sonic the Fighters, Sonic R, and Sonic CD being the three centerpiece games, with a bunch of Game Gear games following as unlockables.
I play it on my Wii, thanks to one of those Game Cube compilations. Sonic Gem Collection, was it? Something like that.
EDIT: Espio'd

"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"Sonic the Fighters itself uses Virtua Fighter's actual engine. Even Honey the Cat comes from that series, just being turned into an animal form in Sonic The Fighters.
Shadow?I don't hate them, but for a while when i was building my hypothetical roster (and said roster's moveset) I tried some of their search results for moves for characters that I am less familiar with, but the site was DDO Sed for some weeks.
The Wii U board is full of anti-Brawl fans who seem to also think poorly of casuals and Brawl fans. More than a few have called casuals entitled people who want everything handed to them, which is why game companies should focus on tournament players rather than millions of casuals who buy the games.
Not all of them are like that, though.
"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"Go to an Eventhubs article of a Fighting game dev saying that the genre is too insular and needs to be more casual-friendly. Read the comments, and you will see plenty of people complaining that their favorite series will be dumbed down with no strategic depth. To many people, they are the same thing.

Too is big Ridley?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
