There was an old black and white drawing from someone working on this game that featured Meta Knight. However, it is far from confirmation; at most , a hint.
Besides, not every character will make it. Would Meta Knight be an acceptable guy to remove? Maybe Pit already fills the same niche.

It seems that the past stages in Brawl were based upon which series were in the original Smash Bros.
As far as secret characters being starters or vice versa, I have to admit you have a point, but there's nothing that says that they can't be secret characters again either.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I honestly couldn't give even the slightest shit about the starting roster. I'll take what I get. Just show me who's on the unlock list so I can properly motivate myself.

I would say Meta Knight's an odd choice to cut, what with him being a popular character from one of Sakurai's franchises and whatnot, but then again, it did take 3 games for him to even show up. So eh.
At least it's another 3DS screenshot. I like the contrast between the army fighting in the background (assuming that's what's going on) and these colorful characters with absurd physics battling in the foreground.
And I don't know. I'd say the sound the Home Run Bat makes is better than whatever sounds the Meteor Smashes make now.
As far as Luigi's taunt is concerned, they are.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyI'd say that they might consider cutting Meta Knight because of complaints about him being broken in Brawl... but since when have concerns about the metagame ever dictated who gets added or subtracted to the game?
Though if we are rating characters based on Sakurai's work on a game, I'll give a mention to Magnus from Kid Icarus: Uprising - sure, he'd be a heavyweight with a bit of a ponderous style, but he's already got several moves from his home game (including great deflection/cancelation style), could be tweaked for an interesting zoning style, and he was generally a neat character in his original game. Though if you wanted to go with a bit more gender balance, either Phosphora (who'd probably be even better for zoning, although more of a Fragile Speedster) or Amazon Pandora (workable as a Trap Master, though not my first choice) could also work. Eh, maybe an outside shot of Dark Lord Gaol (probably as a Stone Wall distance specialist, kind of as a counterpoint for Ganondorf) also could work, though she'd be the least likely of the suggest Uprising characters.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I doubt Magnus has enough to differentiate himself from the rest of the cast to beplayable, but he and Gaol would make a good assist trophy. Medusa's status as the first game's main villain and decent presence in Uprising would probably give her precedence, along with Palutena.

...Isn't an attack that sends the opponent down like that supposed to, I dunno, kill? I've always thought the other way around in that spikes should stay and meteor smashes should go. In order for the kill to happen you have to hit the opponent anyway, and they can and should avoid that using DI. Putting momentum cancelling in there seems arbitrary.
If they really want to make it hard to do they could change the angle for a successful meteor smash to that of Melee's but have it act like a spike. That could be a good compromise.

Speaking of Kid Icarus Uprising, you know what would make an awesome Assist Trophy? An Orne.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.
Must... contain... 8-bit Ear Worm...
You know what else would make a good Assist Trophy? Anything but Hades' Heart.

The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]
Reset Bomb Forest, before the bomb goes off. (see "Chapter 12: Viridi, Goddess of Nature")

I wonder if it would be a good idea to make sure that every series had a starter character, except those with a single rep. Thus, G&W and maybe the Captain would still be unlockable, but Marth would be a starter. No reason, if just feels right.
