One thing for certain, Nintendo should really consider getting Bayonetta in the game so that Bayonetta 2 can get a Colbert Bump.
According to its YMMV page, it's an example of Win Back the Crowd; it's better received than the first Lords of Shadow game at least.
I actually liked the demo, but I don't know if it's a good example of the final game.

Why has friggin' Little Mac not earned a roster spot yet? I wanna do sick fisticuff combos!
My various fanfics.Even if it was a Punch Out stage, it actually would not make Little Mac likely.
Having a character in the game doesn't guarantee a stage, as we've seen before. Vice versa also applies. Captain Falcon and Ness never got a stage in SSB. Marth and Roy didn't either in Melee, although there was some kind of Fire Emblem stage planned, but it could've been a regular game stage or an Adventure Mode one. R.O.B. in Brawl never got a stage based upon his own series.
We had Hanenbow and Smashville in Brawl without a character too. Albeit, Plankton probably couldn't have gotten a reasonable character. Sakurai admitted he thought about putting an AC character in Brawl, but decided not to later on, but kept the stage. This is the key point; Even if he puts a Stage from a series in, it doesn't mean a character will follow. Likewise on the opposite side of things. All of it means nothing in practice as we've seen before.
I'd also prefer to see a Golden Sun character before a Xenoblade one. It helps it has a character with 3 full games and a lot of move options.

I haven't played Xenoblade, but I wouldn't mind it if Shulk were a playable character. The soundtrack to his game sounds way too cool to pass up for this game, and it would be a shame if they missed the opportunity to do so.

@Final Fantasy Rep - Honestly, I couldn't care less if Square Enix got a rep. And I don't really want it to either. They all look like generic RPG hereos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMYES! I've been waiting for a new item to be shown. It being a Pokeball Pokemon is a plus.
I really don't think Bayonetta should be in. Unlike the other third party characters, it'd feel like a cheap advertising move rather than picking someone important enough to Nintendo. I don't want a repeat of Playstation All-Stars' third-party choices again...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyM@Squeenix: I'm a bit late. I still think it should be a Dargon Quack... uh, Dragon Quest character. But we've already discussed that.
@Bayonetta: I don't really care if she's in or not (despite it being unlikely). SEGA already has their character, though, and if we want something from Platinum... well, it's wonderful that you already know.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaRegarding SE; aside from re-iterating my Gilgamesh recommendation for the thirteenth time, I really think that Neku might work. Aside from his gameplay potential, he originated on a Nintendo handheld, has made further appearances on the 3DS, is still being pushed by SE through their various iOS spinoffs, and will likely still be the lead in the TWEWY sequel which is taking its time to materialise.

Does Nintendo even own The Wonderful 101? I know they publish it, but publishing a game doesn't necessarily mean you own the rights to it.
Because if it is a third party I'd be kinda against a character from that game's inclusion for the same reasons I'm against Bayonetta being in the game: People only really wanting them because they are recent.

I'd wait until the Lords of Shadow HD Collection comes out. It'll be there along with the first game and its DLC.
