At least Fire is a character name, codename for one of the DC Universe heroes. Ice as well.
When you have multiple characters with the same powers, it tends to get redundant. The Mega Man series is worse, anyway. Ice Man, Cold Man...
Mortal Kombat is heavily mixed on that. They have names like Rain, but then have more interesting ones like Sub-Zero and Raiden.
Shadow?True but if we're going by who SE likes to whore out I'd assume Cecil is the most likely choice. They really love FF 4 for some reason.
I wouldn't consider the characters in Theatrhythm to be those actual characters, though. They're like the Theme Park Version of the characters. They're images that resemble them, not the characters themselves.
Also, if Square says "We'll only let you use Lightning", Sakurai is perfectly able to say "No thank you."
@Enlong: Indeed. I wouldn't even care if Lightning got in anyway, since she has the required Nintendo appearance. I feel there's better choices, but she at least fits the previous criteria set during Brawl's development. As for whether it is the same criteria for For, who knows? All Sakurai's said so far about Mega Man's addition is that it was somewhat special. Perhaps new ones just need to be beyond special in some way? I'm guessing some major case in Nintendo's history. But it's really hard to say exactly what he meant by that anyway.
Shadow?@Pulse: So you're saying that if they want a FF character, it should be Cloud Strife? But he was never of a Nintendo console, so never mind.
I remember a forum poll on Game FA Qs asking, "Would you want a stage from FF to be in the upcoming Smash Bros?". Most people answered "no". This prompted the topic poster to ask, "What's wrong with Fatal Frame? I think it would fit".
"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"On one hand I want Simon Belmont to be in, on the other hand, Snake does have a unique playstyle. I mean, what does Simon have? A whip? Throwing knifes? A backpack with an infinite inventory?
Signatures are for lamers.Simon was also in another fighting game to pull his moves from, like Sonic. And he was recently in a 3DS game that'll be re-released to the PS 3 and 360 that they could also reference.

Also, he could potentially be given subweapons and abilities of other Belmonts. Item Crashes, for one, could be used as a variable Final Smash, depending on what Subweapon he has readied at the time. Julius's "Omnia Vanitas" slide-majigger would make a weird-but-fun dodge/recovery thing. And I suppose you could toss in some of the melee-range whipping combos from Mirror of Fate.
By the way, is Mirror of Fate good? I was thinking of giving it a shot, but the demo kind of put me off of it, what with some QTE combat and utilizing the 3d-display cardinal sin of going "oooOOO look at this guy flying right into the screen!" But maybe it was just a poor demo?
I have a message from another time...

They could Take a Third Option when it comes to balancing and have an open beta before its official release or something similar. Skullgirls does it and it's worked wonders.
