I think it might actually be a different stage from the other Mario one we saw, since that one was distinctly 3D Land-inspired and Sakurai specifically mentions the New Super Mario Bros. series in his Miiverse comment for this picture.
But then, I never would've guessed the stage from the trailer and the one with Peach's castle were the same stage either, so I dunno.
And actually, looking at the trailer again, the backgrounds are really similar, so it probably is the same stage...

Welcome to th:|I think Mr. Sakurai already confirmed they were both the same stage on Miiverse.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaIt's probably supposed to be an homage to both.
Something that always bugged me about the daily pics is how inconsistent they are. It's like playing the lottery. Sometimes it'll be something cool like a new stage or character, sometimes it'll be a detail shot which really makes you appreciate the effort they're putting into the game... and sometimes you'll get something that showcases literally nothing we haven't seen before

pearlina brainrot affects millions of people worldwide. if you or a loved one are suffering from pearlina brainrot, call 1-800-GAY-NERDSI'm really annoyed about the lack of a Pokemon character reveal correlating to X and Y's release.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMMewtwo was revealed. He just mindwiped everyone For the Evulz, and now nobody remembers... not even Sakurai...

I thought he mindwiped everyone so that they'd let him live alone in peace.

Yeah, I feel that way about it as well. I'm not sure why Sakurai is opting for this method for the daily pics. It feels more like someone's just playing the game and posting their screenshots rather than anything that would come from the developer. Did he find something wrong with the way he updated the Smash Dojo before Brawl was released?
Overall, though, I don't mind the daily pics when they turn out to be nothing special, and I don't even expect a reveal this week (or month). I ultimately just wish there were daily pics that showcased more items at some point...

Here's a little idea I cooked up the other day: What if, after a multiplayer match, the characters on the ground do an exit like how they enter the fight? For instance, after a vs. mode fight, Mario would jump into a freshly-sprouted pipe, Pokemon characters get recalled into Poke Balls, Ness uses Teleport, etc.
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!![]()
![]()
How would that work for eliminated players in stock matches?
But I could see that maybe working at the awards screen. As each player presses Start to continue, we see Mario jump into the pipe, Link play the Ocarina for warp, etc.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]What i would like to see them introduce is some sort of "rivals" mechanic, similar to other Fighting games, just because that would be a good way to add in story without really having to add in "story" that Sakurai seems so bothered about, by starting to flesh out characters' interactions with each other. How *do* all the girls get along? Do Mario and Sonic really see each other as rivals? What does Falco think of Captain Falcon's piloting skills?
The fact that he's not doing a cutscene Subspace-esque story mode this time really, really grinds my gears.
So much wasted potential. Could you imagine Subspace-esque cutscenes with characters like the Villager or Wii Fit Trainer? It'd be amazing.
But no, Sakurai got upset about the cutscenes being posted on online. Y'know, like what happens with every other video game ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMHe's not upset. His logic was "Since people go to the internet to watch cutscenes, the cutscenes can't be considered a reward for playing through the single player campaign. Therefore, I'll make any cutscenes available from the start, and find other ways to reward the player."
I can't fully agree with it, but I don't like it when people take it as Sakurai being all "I am angry. Angry about Youtube!"
I have a message from another time...I wish he'd show us some kind of screenshot other than standard multiplayer shots. It'd be nice to get an idea of what non-battle features are returning, like trophies or other collectibles. So far literally all we know about the game is that it includes Timed Vs. Mode, 3 new characters and several vets, one item, and Final Smashes.

Thank you.
Yeah, it was called gameplay. It may have been a little awkward, but who's to say he couldn't have improved on it in Smash 4?

Gameplay is the single most important thing about a video game. If you're not enjoying the gameplay, why bother playing?
@Anom - I really wanna see Villager's Final Smash.

It looks pretty 3D Land-ish, but then, 3D Land is an homage to most of the rest of the series, especially SMB3.
I sure said that!
