Oh, that.

I wonder why both Links keep fighting Donkey Kong...

wild mass guessSakurai hates Ook and is substituting DK for him, which is why two Links are fighting him.wild mass guess

FYI, I don't seriously believe that but I would laugh if that was the reason.

wild mass guessSakurai is setting us up for the next character reveal, which may be Donkey Kong related.wild mass guess

Notably, we haven't seen a new Bowser picture in forever.

wild mass guessNext Mario game release will reveal Bowser Jr.wild mass guess

[up] Pokemon X/Y comes out this Friday, doesn't it? An obvious reveal then, just no idea who.

No idea if we'll even get a new DK character, though. If we don't, Tropical Freeze will probably be Diddy. And even if we get a new DK character, he might be shown off right away.

The sad thing is that there probably are fans out there that sincerely believe that.

Sakurai just loves showing the Pyrosphere stage without confirming or denying Ridley's presence.

He must know how deliciously trollish that is, and I commend him for reveling in it even as the victim.

He had an interview in a Nintendo Power as well. His only mention about Ridley is "Well, we were thinking about adding him in, but he might be a little slow. Is that alright? [laugh]"

Paraphrased, I think. He doesn't give straight answers and laughs a lot. Him being part-troll seems to make sense. I mean, when you got such a Broken Base that exists, I'm not surprised he tries to take things less seriously at this point.

[up] Slow as in Mighty Glacier slow? Because I wouldn't really mind it so much if it meant we actually got him as a playable.

He only said slow.

There was no real context to what "kind" of slow it is. Possibly Bowser slow? Who knows. Maybe Charizard-esque slow. -shrugs-

The point was I don't think there'd be that big a deal with him not being on the fast side of things just so long as he was actually playable.

You know, aside from if they made him so slow that he was, well, not actually playable.

Maybe he meant the reveal would be slow, as in wouldn't happen for a while?

I see Ridley's main flaw being he's big. He's one hell of a Lightning Bruiser, middle-weight and easily recovers, but he's rather easy to hit.

Yeah, I see Ridley as being pretty light for his size.

I'm still impressed at the results they're getting out of the 3DS' rendering capabilities, considering half its power is used to show the picture twice.

To a point - with as much as Olimar was sized up, it shouldn't be unreasonable for Ridley to be sized down to something not that far removed from the overall size range of the other characters.

I'd make Ridley a bit bigger than Bowser.

While I don't think Ridley's size is an issue, there's obviously no denying that he's a very large character. On average, larger than Bowser.

It's difficult to judge size from the 2D games since sprites are not always proportionate due to working in set sizes. The 3D games, Prime and Other M, tend to give more reasonable scales of size, and in those Ridley is modestly sized. Prime, at least.

[up] That would seem like the most reasonable way to do it, perhaps with his tail getting some kind of special programing so it doesn't make for an unnecessarily easy way to get at him without actually making it untargetable or what have you.

The tail would just behave like Marth's cape when not being used for attacks. Same with his wings.

Hitboxes and models aren't identical, after all.

I think the most important point is this- Make sure his wings aren't part of his hitbox. Have them extend into the foreground and background or just No-Sell everything.

Pit's wings were intangible in Brawl, as well. They'd be like larger Pit's wings.

Or like larger Meta-Knight's-Cape-Turned-Into-Wings.

That's what I figured, but I've seen the argument that Ridley's wings would HAVE to be either too small or would make him a tremendous target, when other options exist.

I'm starting to think we won't get confirmation one way or the other on Ridley until E3. With his wings he'd probably be a bit bigger than Bowser, but he's workable.

[up][up]That's mainly by people who simply don't understand how Smash Bros.- or video games in general- work. It's safe to ignore them if they don't get the explanation the first time.

[up]As much as I wish we'd get him, I've given up hope on having a playable Riddles. I'd be elated if I were proven wrong, though.
