Speaking of new characters from old franchises, Noah is honestly a shoe-in.
The legend has returned.![]()
You brought it up by bringing up the "who should get cut" discourse.
I'm admittedly not that versed in FE, but wasnt she one of the faces of the game that pretty much saved the franchise? Definitly seems like she is quite important to the series.

IMO I think the FE characters who are most likely to stick around for Smash 6 are Marth (since he is more or less the face of the franchise), Chrom and Lucina (since they're arguably both second to only Marth as some of the franchise's most iconic characters), Roy (for being a fan favorite character), and maybe Robin (to complete the Awakening trifecta).
I figure everyone else is likely to sit out of Smash 6 in favor of the protagonist of whichever FE game is the latest installment during the development of Smash 6.
"Hey, least I didn't lose all my artistic talent when I crash landed in the arena here."I don't think Echo Fighters are on the chopping block myself precisely because they're clones of other characters.
It's much easier to bring back Lucina if you already have a functioning Marth to branch her off of than it is to bring back a wholly unique character. Lower-effort to create a character means lower-effort to recreate them, too.

Damn it, I was gonna say that!
Lucina seems like a reasonable "keep" because of popularity. Engage seems to be using her over Robin or Chrom.
Agreed that Echo Fighters are easier to keep if anything. I wouldn't mind more, or maybe something that kind of splits the differnce between an echo and a fancy costume.
If Daisy and Richter (and to a lesser extend, Dark Samus and Dark Pit) make it to future installments, they could use some more differences to make them more than Peach With A Slightly Different Hitbox (they removed one of the only differences she had after launch, her higher base knockback but lower knockback scaling turnips, for goodness sake) and Simon With A Slightly Better Olimar Matchup, respectively.
Daisy's odd turnips actually came about a bit later on, and was fixed in a later update. It was basically a simple update error in the first place.
Dark Pit does have a few different moves, but he's only slightly better than Dark Samus and Chrom(who have either a new move or elemental differences which show up fairly often. Chrom also has a unique mechanic, but otherwise, practically in a similar position to Dark Pit and Dark Samus).
Richter has a slight move difference due to how elements work, and poor Daisy literally has a different hurtbox in a few moves(which rarely makes a difference anyway) to separate her from Peach.
It wouldn't be hard to fix them up. Use a custom move for most(Richter aside), add a new move or change a move a bit, etc.
Shadow?Ancient Arrows don't go through multiple opponents, it explodes on impact.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I would expect Marth, Lucina and Byleth to stick around but beyond that I could see everybody else sitting the game out. People would probably a lot more fine with a new FE character without the oversaturation going on.
If it were up to me, I'd keep Marth, Ike, Robin and Byleth and make Lucina an alt of Marth.
I know no one likes thinking about cuts because every character is somebody's favorite, but one way or another, the cuts are coming. The roster can't keep growing at this rate forever and I also doubt Sakurai can pull an "Everyone Is Here" twice in a row. Plus character distribution is very unequal across franchises. There is definitely some balancing in order.
Personally, I'd probably cut about 20-30 characters from the current roster, starting with clones/semi-clones/echoes that can't be easily turned into alts. This includes characters I like.

I find it unlikely there won't be another FE game after Engage before the next SSB game is a thing.
Though even if Engage is still the new hotness by then, there's no guarantee they wouldn't pull a Pyra/Mythra and make somebody else the playable rep over Toothpaste-Chan/Pepsi-Kun.
