I guess so that it's not an overt advertisement for a game with a much higher age rating, since if they're not actually in Smash, the Smash advertisements can't present a toned down version?
I really hope I'm less sad and salty about it tomorrow.

Not the games themselves, from my understanding, but the videos that present them. Not just for M-rated games either; the direct for Mario's 35th anniversary was rated Teen only because there was a short portion talking about Super Mario All Stars coming to SNES Online, which has a few Teen rated games.
IDK, seems kinda semantic to me. I'm just really bummed out that Travis's chance just got shut down & then some.
I still can't believe this isn't a thing. I thought they would do that by Ultimate.
This is how I more or less feel.

Any suggestions? I also posted the same post in the Create-A-Fighter thread, with a moveset for Tails as well.
I can only hope such an idea crosses Sakurai's mind. It's fully possible with assets still in game. I just wish there was a better Knuckles costume (also an asset in game), and a better Tails mask (I wouldn't even buy the one currently available).
I guess that's a better way of putting it. I've given up hope for most/all of my list of the likeliest, and the rest of my list I'd like to see, but a lot less, and they're a lot less likely. I feel really shitty saying/thinking it, but even if Tabuu, Yoshimitsu, and Eevee all got in, my hype for this pass and future DLC is pretty much dead as of this weekend. I'm not expecting a Shantae or Tails surprise. And since I'm of the strong impression that this will be the last Smash Bros game, I'm just going to need to come to closure with that, and enjoy the characters that are there. And at least Travis is a Mii costume. It could be a lot worse.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyWho I want:
- I'm pretty much satisfied after the Banjo and Steve reveals.
Who I expect:
- Rillaboom. Out of all the Gen 8 Pokémon, this one makes the most sense.
- Felyne (Monster Hunter), another Capcom rep. I didn't pick the Hunter themselves, because I personally find them to be a boring Featureless Protagonist.
- Rex and Pyra (Xenoblade 2). Heck, it doesn't even break the non-existent "No Spirit Fighters" rule. And while I don't like the Xenoblade franchise too much, I think that its fans deserve a second rep.
- Shantae. For a second Indie rep, she really isn't off-the-table. She's just a Spirit and has a lot of potential, as well as heavy ties to Nintendo.
- Crash Bandicoot, after everything that happened so far, I'm actually surprised that Crash isn't playable yet.
- Phoenix Wright, same argument as Crash.
- Geno, another RPG rep, definitely not off-the-table by all accounts. Sakurai himself stated that he wants him playable.
- And maybe another Zelda representative. Probably Impa, though I have given up on the thought myself.
...for some reason i'm feeling like a Danganronpa character is happening. More specfically, Monokuma or Hajime Hinata.
My only two guesses at this point are Rex and Geno.
Rex is practically a lock given Sakurai's "he would have made it in pass 1 if his game released earlier" explanation. It's possible he'll get spurned again if Sakurai feels the Mii Fighter costume is good enough, but I think he's more likely than not.
And Geno just seems like the sort of Ridley-esque cult character who'd be perfect to end Ultimate's development on as Fighter Pack #11.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! As far as predictions, Crash and Ryu Hayabusa are the ones I still feel safe about; the other two are a bit murkier.
-Capcom Character (My instinct is Dante but there's also a curveball of a Phoenix, MH, or Amaterasu)
-Square Enix Character (Sora feels increasingly less likely, but even so there's still other options; Neku, Geno, Terra, Lara Croft)
I also think there's outside chance of Lloyd Irving if Bandai Namco get a character.
I'd honestly rather have Heihachi rather than Lloyd. I know that the Tales of... series is beloved, but Tekken just feels more iconic and fitting for the game, especially since Heihachi himself was considered for 4.
If a rep comes from Bandai Namco, though not that high on my overall list, I’d want it to be Agumon just for everything that would be made Hilarious in Hindsight with Digimon vs. Pokémon.
My musician pageI feel there's a bit of Double Standard here.
- Travis is reconfirmed because he has a Mii costume.
- Rex isn't deconfirmed despite having a Mii costume.
Stick with one, people.
Continue writing our story of peace.I've recently got into NiGHTS into Dreams… and would like a Nights rep. But if not that's okay. ^^
The Protomen enhanced my life.It doesn’t seem that unclear to me.
Because if the way Nintendo structures these trailers (“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate X Persona 5”), they act as advertisements for both games. If you’re advertising an M-rated game, the trailer has to have an M on it. Nintendo doesn’t want the M on Smash Bros. trailers, so they change the trailer to use the character’s name in a generic font instead of the series’ logo.
Probably they ran afoul of the ESRB when they were promoting Joker and had to change the way they presented the costumes afterward.
×6
The thing is, Rex's costume is older. It's more plausible for them to have decided to add him as an actual fighter since then, whereas if Travis was going to be part of pass 2, why also have him as a Mii costume? Given they've presumably finalized who will be in the second pass by now.
If we get a pass 3 and know they weren't already certain who would be in it when adding this costume, Travis will be plausible again.
Not saying Rex is necessarily likely, either, just possible.

I'm guessing it's because the ESRB is does not want to advertise M-rated games to children because Think of the Children!.
I don't know, I think not allowing Nintendo to say the source material is a bit too much. I understand toning down a character that's in Smash, but not naming the source material.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

My most wanted 4 are Neptune, Asuka from Senran Kagura, Shantae, and Viewtiful Joe.
I’m not convinced that Shantae is deconfirmed. And I’m aware how unlikely my picks are. It just is kinda soul crushing to see a character you want be deconfirmed.
I’m also wondering why the US versions of the presentations like to censor the names of M-rated games.
