Steve threw a wrench in the commonly mentioned circle of potential Smash additions after he dropped from speculation after Banjo-Kazooie. He was seen as off the table since then. Now that he's back, who knows who is next? Beforehand, I would have expected Travis Touchdown from Travis the series to be playable and Steve would have been the swordfighter costume.
Now everything is up in the air. I just hope we don't get Corrin level shill picks, that there's more first party picks and someone else gets promoted. Having only Min Min be promoted would feel like wasted potential, especially after she busted that damn fan rule.
-Witty line-At this point I'm not even 100% sure a Gen 8 Pokemon is a guarantee anymore. Obviously, the state of the world has shuffled some time windows around, but I can't help but feel like if Nintendo were going to ask their fans to pay extra money for a new Pokemon character, it would be now, before the last piece of Sword and Shield DLC comes out. But hey, it also wouldn't surprise me if they did. So now I've more or less solidified it to
Who I Want: Crash, Sora, Doomguy, Phoenix Wright
Who I Expect: Crash, Gen VIII Pokemon Maybe?, Some Other First Party, I Dunno Maybe Geno?
Steve's placement has made it hard to predict the rest of the pass until the next fighter. And even then, who knows? FP 1 was "four third parties and another FE character" after all.
Honestly, most of my wishlist has already been fulfilled so I kind of have to reach.
For example, if I could have any video game character in Smash Bros, it'd be Adam Jensen or Denton. However, I would imagine that's incredibly unlikely for various reasons. There doesn't seem to be a new Deus Ex on the horizon, I have no idea how popular the series is in Japan, and I'm not even sure the idea would occur to the folks at Nintendo.
I'm not sure if Digimon qualifies as a video game or toy series, but I'd love to see Agumon, and that one is actually plausible.
I tend to keep my expectations low, however, as not to be disappointed. Minecraft Steve was a pleasant surprise, for example. Not a character I explicitly would have asked for necessarily, but they're definitely one of those out-of-left-field ideas that has obvious potential. Pretty much perfect for smash.
Leviticus 19:34No More Heroes 3 was to come out early next year, too...
I feel like somehow this weekend was a simultaneous "deconfirming" of both Travis and Shantae. I've pretty much given up hope on another indie character.
And of course Tails is a bad Mii costume, too.
So I really don't have a wishlist left. Yoshimitsu and Agumon are both highly unlikely and probably not Bamco's first choices. I doubt Sakurai would ever actually make Tabuu a character. Eevee's time is gone. Champion Cynthia doesn't have any Gen 8 Pokemon in her team (yet).
So... yeah.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyCrash Bandicoot and Phoenix Wright are still my top two, couldn't tell you which I want more. I think they're both pretty plausible too... Crash being the last of the big 3 platformer mascots not in Smash and being in the midst of a revival, and Phoenix having a long Nintendo history and having appeared in a fighting game before.
I'd also think Doomguy and a Mortal Kombat rep would be neat, Doom for an FPS rep that practically codified the genre and has a long Nintendo history, and a Mortal Kombat rep (probably Scorpion, Sub-Zero or Raiden) as it's one of the most well known fighting games with no one in Smash yet, and who wouldn't want to see Ryu vs Scorpion? I don't really have a personal connection with either though, I just think they're good candidates.
I do know Mortal Kombat is relatively unknown in Japan, but I'm sure Sakurai at least is aware of it given his love for fighter games, and the potential attention it could get in the west might be enough to make it worthwhile.
Sakurai said during the presentation that sometimes during breaks or...lunch breaks before the apocalypse that the team would play matches and maybe make balance adjustments afterwards.
That comment suddenly made randomness think of an old video game commercial in a streamer's stream recently: Of 2 college dude bros just playing a game they made and when had to change something all they did was adjust a knob and talk about how easy and cool designing video games is.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Hmm.
Imagine if some of the full Mii Costumes came with a preset move combination that breaks some of the "rules". If you all could use any combination of Mii Fighter moves to better convey a character represented by a character costume, what would you use? I think this could be very interesting for Bomberman, especially.
As for my choices:
Travis:
- Neutral Special: Suplex
- From: Brawler Side 3
- Representing: His pro wrestling suplex variants
- Side Special: Stealth Burst
- From: Gunner Side 2
- Representing: Shining Chip's long distance "throws"
- Up Special: Skyward Slash Dash
- From: Swordfighter Up 2
- Representing: His general theatrical sword twirls before finishers
- Down Special: Blurring Blade
- From: Swordfighter Neutral 3
- Representing: Low stance charge attacks
Knuckles:
- Neutral Special: Airborne Assault
- From: Swordfighter Side 1
- Representing: Spin Jump
- Side Special: Power Thrust
- From: Swordfighter Down 2
- Representing: His heavy punches
- Up Special: Thrust Uppercut
- From: Brawler Up 3
- Representing: His burning uppercuts
- Down Special: Flashing Mach Punch
- From: Brawler Neutral 2
- Representing: His speed and punches
Viridi:
- I don't really have specifics on her representation, so much as I wanted to reflect a more "nature" based take on things.
- I'd make her a Yoshi-esque floaty jumper, to make up for her lack of recovery moves.
- Neutral Special: Laser Blaze
- From: Gunner Neutral 2
- Side Special: Gale Strike
- From: Swordfighter Neutral 1
- Up Special: Feint Jump
- From: Brawler Down 2
- Down Special: Absorbing Vortex
- From: Gunner Down 3

The sad, REAL American dichotomyAlright, this is the character I have currently in my wishlist (all others I mentioned in the past I feel have low chances by now, or been debunked as in the case of Travis): Geralt from Witcher 3. I would purchase the whole Vol. 2 just for this character, and the others would be a bonus for me. I have been playing Wild Hunt and really like this character. It helps that the Switch version reportedly sold pretty well for a port of an old game.
The following characters are those likely to appear at some point in the future, albeit potentially subject to deconfirmation at any moment: Crash Bandicoot and a Gen 8 Pokémon.
These character I thought (not necessarily wished) would appear, but various indications currently deem them unlikely to this day and age: Tracer and Doomguy.
And these are the ones I'm pretty sure won't appear because of corporate constraints: Sora and Geno.
For my part, there's not much otherwise I can bring to the table speculation-wise.

135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311Well, I guess my prediction list now is something like this:
- Monolith Soft rep (I write that specifically because I suppose there's a chance they could add KOS-MOS instead of the expected Rex & Pyra, Elma, or some other Xenoblade character.)
- Maybe Crash or something.
- Sora (please?)
- A BOTW 2 character (the shill pick). I'm guessing it'll most likely be BOTW Zelda using a Sheikiah Slate and maybe even the Champion's abilities, though I suppose Ao C Impa's possible too.
At this point, I've just thrown up my hands and have gone with "surprise me" for the rest of FP2. I do certainly still have characters I'd like to see get in the game, but at this point I just plain don't know who to expect to have actually made the cut for FP2 going forward.
