Yes, but currently the studio that has his video game rights right now is Insomniac, who were purchased by Sony in the wake of the success of the 2018 game.

I doubt popularity is that big of a factor for entrance to Smash. Wii Fit Trainer not being expected and not getting any requests was exactly why Sakurai put her in.

Don't know why that would affect Crash and Spyro. Besides, I say Spyro has more content to offer. At least three Big Bads, and at least four playable allies (Sheila, Sgt. Byrd, Agent 9, and Bentley) , supporting characters (Hunter,Bianca, Handel, Greta, the Professor, Elora) and one punching bag (Moneybags).

Makes sense that the one they would want to negotiate is Crash. And Spyro having more content is simply not true

Just because first-party characters don’t have to be popular, doesn’t mean the same applies to third-party characters. The latter have to justify licensing, at the bare minimum.

And have you seen the roster for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled? Even not counting the guests and characters who aren’t compatible with canon or straight-up not even characters, there’s definitely plenty Crash can bring.

Including a pile of freaking crates, apparently.

If you mean for spirits, Crash has plenty too. Just look at the CTR Nitro Fueled roster. And Spyro being on that roster makes me think, given they have a long history of cameoing in each other's games, if only one gets in the other may well come with them as a spirit or Mii costume.

I didn't say Crash was lacking abundant content though.

I'm sure the Iron Checkpoint Crate being a thing could be inspired by the Piranha Plant stunt this game pulled last year so hey at least there is a connection between Crash and Smash

It's a pile of crates that's playable in a racing game. That beats the hell out of a character from a live action American zombie horror show in a game full of mostly Japanese martial artists.

So, I was just thinking to myself: why are characters like Crash, Spyro, and Doomslayer being heavily requested now as opposed to a few years ago?

Then I realized that it was because they had major revivals since Smash 4’s release(Doom 2016, N ‘Sane Trilogy, and Reignited Trilogy), which put them back in the spotlight,

Crash can't be added since he spins which is a move Incineroar does, so it would be redundant, like adding Megaman since he would just be a Samus clone.
