Melee was a different time. Most people wouldn't know if one version of the game had less content than another.
x3 Also, Ness wasn't originally intended for Smash Bros 64. It's just that Sakurai and his small team got extra time for the game, and they decided to make extra characters (all the unlockables) using the skeletons of the base roster (Jigglypuff from Kirby, Luigi and Ness from Mario, and I forget who Captain Falcon got his skeleton from, I think it was Samus but I could be wrong).
Supposedly, Lucas was going to replace Ness in Melee but since Mother 3 was delayed they decided against that idea.
I'm glad Marth and Roy weren't region only. Marth was one of my mains in Melee. I just want Sakurai and the developers to ease back on seeing a new Smash roster each time and immediately thinking 'FIRE EMBLEM!'
This Byleth shitstorm could only have been worse if they went with their original plan and ended Ultimate on FP character 5.
-Witty line-This will probably, at the very least, be the last Fire Emblem character for awhile (though I’m disappointed that none of the House Leaders are proper fighters).
Anyway, I would suggest that we all calm down and try to make peace. Byleth’s in the game, and we’ll still be getting more fighters after this.

"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."The only thing that bugs me is that The Legend Of Zelda effectively only has three characters, plus three alternate versions of those characters. Shiek at least plays and looks unique, but Young Link and Toon Link are basically echo fighters. I know the games don't have a lot in terms of regular main characters, but come on. There's plenty of worthy characters, even if they only appeared in one game.
Fire Emblem is a series with decades of history and a new set of main characters in almost every game, giving dozens of potential characters without even taking secondary characters into consideration. And since Awakening, they’ve pretty consistently been big sellers for Nintendo. They absolutely should be getting a lot of characters in Smash Bros.
Yes, a bunch of them are basically the same. That sucks. But two of them are now explicitly echoes of the other two, and Roy being the same as Marth is a problem that goes all the way back to Melee. The other four are completely different from the first four and each other.
They really shouldn't be getting more than Zelda or Kirby tho.
Pokémon is literally the highest grossing multimedia franchise of all time. You can't really compare.

x4 Eh, I don’t know about Kirby...
Zelda, maybe, but as I’ve said before, they don’t really have a lot of recurring characters in that series, and Smash doesn’t really do non-protagonist one-shots.
I support Midna, at least.

Oh God! Natural light! It's not like Zelda doesn't have regulars (Impa or Tingle) or characters that were prominent when they did make their appearance (Midna, Ghirahim, for example)
My musician pageYou'd think people would be more up in arms about Link, given that they are the same person, more ore less
. Or that Dark Samus became less unique when it became a character vs being an Assist Trophy.
Three Links, three Samuses, two Marios, two proto-Raichus, with plenty off asterisks all over that sentence.
I wonder how people would react if Paper Mario got in.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI wouldn't mind Tingle. Sure, Americans Hate Tingle, but people hated the Duck Hunt Dog too.
Kirby is much more iconic and less niche than FE.

x11 TBF, Zelda and Kirby don't change up the entire cast from game to game. You can argue Zelda technically does, but you still have reincarnations of the same core characters and occasionally side characters like Tingle and Impa throughout the series. So in terms of major players throughout both franchises, it's really just Link, Zelda, and Ganon in Zelda, and Kirby, Metaknight, and Dedede in Kirby.

>That's incorrect; Marth and Roy were originally supposed to be Japanese Exclusive characters because Sakurai knew they had no appeal in the West. But because Melee was rushed, he couldn't remove them from the Roster for Western Release, and that is why we have Marth and Roy in Western Smash.
Wha? The game was going to have different country based rosters? What about Smash 4 where Sakurai wanted them to have the same roster to the point of cuttting the Ice Climbers because they couldn't work well on the 3DS. Besides why would the lack of appeal be a factor in stopping their inclusion, as stated earlier, Earthbound didn't do too well and Ness got in the first smash anyway.
