Yes, it's a clear example of "Seinfeld" Is Unfunny. It's a bit like how Drizzt is a generic, dual-scimitar wielding dark elf ranger, which is really generic these days.
Thanks you for answering. Which recommend Tooie over Kazooie? I might just skip over since I did touch Kazooie at one point in my life.
I only saw Link's shield & dash attack with Roy's neutral B. Other than that I'm not seeing it.
They're actually pretty different games, but personally I like Tooie more. What I like about Tooie is that its different worlds are all really connected, and makes it feel like an actual contiguous place. I think I'm using contiguous right.
I should note that I'm in the minority with that opinion, though.
I do think the Hero (DQ 11) is pretty generic looking. In fact, I'm surprised they made him the main alt when he's literally the most generic looking and least interesting (visually) of all the DQ characters they included
Oh, and his name (The Hero? Really?)
That being said, what appears to be a set of special moves that can be swapped out mid-battle IS pretty interesting, though!
Thanks for the heads up, looks like I'm back tracking to Kazooie then.
People are getting way too strung up with the name. Not sure what you could call them that isn't broad or specific.
Apparently it wasn't all that hard to use Banjo. Spencer say they would be flexible as they did in the past & here we are. It's honestly pretty nice to hear about this since I keep hearing how complicated copyrights are.
People always complain about the name...
Well maybe they shouldn't take interest in games where the main character can be named literally anything.
That'd fix everything.
Taking issue with the name is silly, especially when it makes perfect sense for the DQ Hero.
And they couldn't just call him the Luminary, since you can also play as other DQ heroes.
, Like I said before, they could've given each hero their Canon Name.

The only canon name I know is Erdrick/Loto for the hero in I.
They have titles, not canon name. And i don't think Eight has a title unless i'm forgetting it.
I was going to jokingly suggest "Dragon Quest Guy"...but that actually kind of works.
I might go "Dragon Quester".
Reminds me of this letter talking about adding the guy from Harvest Moon.
I'd call him "Moon Harvester"-it sounds way incredibly badass.
ohhhh man i just noticed that the spiral mountain sample song on the site has bits of other BK music in the middle
COME HOME TO ME BANJO
They could have done what they did with Bowser Jr. and Olimar, and just name the main one (in this case the Luminary) for the promotional and such, and then give the different people-alts their own names as well.
Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than just naming the whole character "the hero". Have they talked about him at all, given any reason why they did that?

A Japanese Raptor Vtuber reacting to the Luminary and Banjo's announcement.
Hey,I suggested the main character from Harvest Moon awhile ago too, great minds think alike!
They could just call him 'The Farmer' or something
Well the most satisfying reason would be the characters don't have actual names to begin with.
What if the last 2 DLC characters are girls?
Edited by Oggy123 on Jun 12th 2019 at 5:57:49 PM
Let's be honest it should be Midna in her imp and princess form
I would not be shocked if the name was mandated by Square.
Well, we have 2 guys (Joker and Hero) and a mix (Banjo and Kazooie), so 2 girls would make sense from a gender equality standpoint. Now I'm not sure who would fill up those two spots, but it checks out.
Hero(there is no The, that's just part of the tagline) is perfectly fine as none of them have canon names at all. They're pure titles. It's a Class name, just like Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Pokemon Trainer. And others I might've forgotten, but those are the stand-out generic classes. PT got updated to finally have more full alt options instead of references, at least.
Wished they named them Dragon Warrior as a nod to the original localization
