I'm down with leak discussion so long as it comes from either a credible source like Vergeben (and at a stretch, loz18 since he has been right in the past), or seems legit and could provoke discussion, like that one thing from 2ch that faked that it was written in January, or the time someone tried to pass off Pachinko machine footage as Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia's Final Smash.

Leaks can be a double edged sword, but for me I personally don't like leaks to the point I'm wondering if I hate them or not. Too many times, leaks sucks the hype out of the reveals. It's not that I don't understand the massive craving for infos but I just prefer being officially unveiled. Not to mention there are times where leaks can damage the game, but that's rarely the case.

That only time I saw leaks being beneficial was UMVC 3.

I think the leaks and the surrounding speculation behind the game are relevant to this topic, and might provide interesting discussion. At the same time, I really don't see the point in just repeatedly going, 'Ooh, someone said something there' 'There's no real evidence so I don't think it's true' 'But what if it is?' Now there's a recipe for frustration.

I'm also sympathetic, in the case of valid leaks, to people who'd prefer to wait until the official reveals, though. Hell, the cinematic reveals so far have been top-notch. Ridley and K. Rool's were fantastic.

To get back on topic, remember that timeline for character reveals of the previous Smash reveals? Here's an updated version with the recent 8/8/18 Direct and estimations on when the next reveals will be.

Three reveals on consecutive days in October, and nothing in September or November? That... doesn't seem plausible.

Isaac would be a unique character inclusion that would add diversity to the roster, due to his earth and plant powers as well as his magical hand. He also brings in a whole new franchise. It would be amazing if he somehow actually ended up being the third AT promotion.

Kinda random, but I really hope that there are more female newcomers than we have now, which is... one? one-half? If you stretch it...?

We technically have three so far if you include Echoes. (the (default) Inkling, Daisy, and Dark Samus)

Dark Samus is being treated as gender neutral by the website.

It would be just Daisy really. Two if you count Inkling.

All current female fighters (Also including those that are female by default): Samus, Peach, Daisy, Nana, Sheik, Zelda, ZSS, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Palutena, Lucina, Bayonetta, Inkling.

Jigglypuff and Ivysaur are commonly considered female too

It's a bit difficult to classify Dark Samus.

On the one hand, you'd think it'd be simple, due to Dark Samus mimicking Samus's form and having some of her genetic information alongside the Phazon Suit. On the other hand, the true nature of Dark Samus is the Metroid Prime, and the Samus shape is more of a weird chimera thing than an actual clone of Samus; the mimicry of the suit's shape was more based on opportunity and survival than anything else, since the unstable core of the Metroid Prime needed something to inhabit, or else die. I have no idea what sex or gender the Metroid Prime actually was (do Metroids even have that? Isn't a Metroid Queen at the end of their metamorphosis path regardless? Does that matter for a Phazon-mutated specimen, which don't follow the usual life cycle?), so my first thought is to treat the creature like a Legendary Pokemon and say that Dark Samus's gender is unknown.

Of the most likely ones we've got:

• Isabelle: Likely, but also probably an echo.
• Dixie: Vaguely likely, probably a more diversified echo.
• Impa: Possible, likely echo.
• Elma: Possible, definitely unique.
• Jeanne: Unlikely echo.
• Hilda: Very unlikely echo.
• Savvy Stylist: Very darkhorse unique.

Uh, pray for Elma? The deaths of Midna and Ashley hurt more than I realized to be honest unless you want to go for super obscure nobodies like Lip and Ayumi Tachibana or more Fire Emblem characters.

Pyra also exists but she isn't the main focus.

I fear that if Elma misses the initial roster, her chances of being playable won't be so great for DLC when competing against Rex/Pyra

I don't think standing in the background like Pokemon Trainer while Stock Anime Boy #5693 does all the hard work is what we want for female representation. Or Mythra could get in solo thanks to the Torna DLC. I'd be for that.

I guess Medusa is still viable. As another echo, but you work with what you got.

As far as potential DLC goes, there's Edelgard, maybe Ashley if they do decide to include Assist Trophies, a potential Arms rep (though probably only Ribbon Girl and as a clone for Spring Man), and the aforementioned Rex/Pyra/Mythra team up.

I'm only now realizing how disappointed I'll be if Elma doesn't make it.
