Well, I thought there was a Smash being made for the 3DS (it was either new or a port), but I can't find anything about it (my search-fu is weak though).
I originally thought the series was going to remain a once-a-console game, since it seems to sell about as well as Nintendo's other franchises. It's a fun series and it's nice to have a way of playing with Nintendo's history rather than just reading about it.
From what I heard, many fans actually want someone else, other than Sakurai, to make the next game. That could be debatable.
(sigh) When I first saw the commericals of the first game for the N64, I thought it was going to be somewhat of another Mario game. Or mainly just have more Mario characters than what was actually shown back then, with a few non-Mario extras( My first thought concerning the commerical was "What is pikachu doing with a bunch of Mario characters?").
Hey, in terms of Nintendo in General, Mario/Red M was all I knew then(of course, I did hear of the names Starfox and F-ZERO then and I first known of Pocket Monsters through a Promotional Video tape I got from the mail, If not for the Big N's logo, I probably would have never bothered). I own a SEGA Genesis then along with an NES and SNES.
What about you? I know most of you have heard of Zelda back then.

Yep, I'm still here.I think Captain Falcon was the only character in the original Smash Bros that made me go, "Who?" but I've been gaming since I was 3.
I am guilty of believing Marth and Roy in Melee were original characters until I had Fire Emblem pointed out to me.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I remember learning about Fire Emblem and Earthbound and Game And Watch via learning about the characters so I could beat my friends in Melee (As I don't own Melee, I still suck at it). Also, I distinctly remember thinking that Samus was a dude.
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too cramped
Ha, a lot of people thought that. Hell, some still do and a few even think Samus was always a guy and that the girl is just there for fanservice.
The only character I didn't know about when the first Smash came out was Captain Falcon, and that was because I have never seen him before that game. F Zero itself wasn't new to me though.
And I still find it funny that I seemed to be one of the few people who was aware that Marth didn't premier in Melee. I mean, I didn't know who he was, nor his game series, but I knew he wasn't created specifically for Melee.

I had played the original Metroid before, but I didn't own the game so I had almost completely forgotten about it and didn't recognize Samus.
No clue who Ness or Captain Falcon were. I had no idea who Marth or Roy were. Didn't know the Ice Climbers. I didn't know who Mr. Game And Watch was until someone told me he was the guy from Octopus. I had heard of ROB but again, did not recognize him right away.

She's a girl when she's outside the suit, but as soon as she suits up, her gender magically changes to a guy. No, no, I will not accept the idea that she is just a woman in powered armor, that's ridiculous. Next you'll be telling me that Zelda doesn't undergo a magic sex change every time she morphs into Shiek.
Wouldn't be surprised if they really believe that. To some, Samus Aran IS the Powered Armored Suit(or a robot), not a chick in the suit. thinking that, it gives them the immersion(I'm beginning to hate that word) that if there really is someone in the suit, It's the players themselves, not an actual character. Nintendo's motto is "the player is the main character," after all. It's like how they only see Mega Man(Rock Light) as an 8-Bit Sprite and ONLY an 8-Bit Sprite.
It could be argued that Nintendo doesn't really have any good, true female characters that can qualify for Super Smash Bros. Zelda's arguably the best you can get for this, but service says, "The fandom only wants and cares for Sheik, instead."

Yep, I'm still here. When I first played Smash Bros 64, the only character I knew was Pikachu, which is why I originally wanted to play it. Got to know the other characters and got their games. Like I was looking for a non-Pokemon game to have, and saw the Game Boy port of Donkey Kong Country and thought "Hey, this guy is in Super Smash Bros." Something like that happened with pretty much every other character in Smash too. By the time Brawl came out, I was more versed in the Nintendo world, and knew alot more characters in the game. But to this day, I still haven't played any Mother, F-Zero, Fire Emblem or Pikmin games.
Something inspire that post? I think people prefer Samus in her suit because they like the suit or because they spent the most of Metroid's games playing as Samus in her suit and feel that's how she's best represented. My online sessions have just as many people who like abusing Din's Fire with Zelda as there are needlers with Shiek. The only group I think honestly want no Zelda are the relationship fetishists, who have too loud a voice in non romance media.
Though admittedly, the only obvious female to be playable in a future Smash Bros would be Dixie from Donkey Kong. Maybe Alex from Eternal Darkness, Princess Shroob(more people want Geno/Fawful) or Metroid Prime/Dark Samus. Maybe Lip but those would all be weird and unexpected.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackCaptain Syrup needs to show up too, even if only as a boss. The fact the only representation Wario got was from Wario Ware disappointed me.
I would love if they had Dixie Kong. Then they would have both the mains from the best Donkey Kong related thing in all of existence (at least until I play Returns maybe). I could also then proceed to beat people with my hair and such things are always amusing.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahCaptain Syrup could work I guess, but as far as I know, the Wario Land Series doesn't make it obvious how she would attack. Even from Wario Ware they at least have micro games associated with them. Mona-> Throw Pizza Box, shoot bowling ball, Cut with scissors, use something from after game cutscene...and I wouldn't even be all that excited to see any of the Wario Ware characters.

I don't know. I've heard conflicting things. For one thing, Sakurai was pretty clear on that he doesn't want to work on another Smash game after Brawl. They almost had to bribe him for that one in the first place.
If you ask me, that would likely be a good thing.
But someone also made a thread recently about how Sakurai apparently said that no Smash will be as "hardcore" again as Melee. So, eh.
