... Well, there's a legit point to be made there: Some Final Smashes suck, some rock. The distribution is far from helping the existing balance issues, and cracking open the Smash Balls just further favors fast and powerful characters. Like Landmaster. Falco. Landmaster.

Ah Ice Climbers. They're fun to use, but I liked them better in Melee.
And I've managed to avoid being KO'd by Super Sonic, but it's not often and usually only occurs because the player can't control him well. If my brothers are playing as Sonic though, it's nearly impossible unless they get distracted. Inversely I can't control Super Sonic worth crap and end up killing myself. I prefer Pikachu's Final Smash to Sonic's...
Despite that, I really like Final Smashes and never saw them as really game-breaking or anything like that. But then again, I mostly played Timed matches and not Stock matches.
I'm pretty sure he's saying that because he knows he's getting a LANDMASTER and would rather get an Arwing or something.

I find that that rarely seems to be the case unless you're playing one a stage with one long platform, where jumping isn't necessary (and thus getting to the item is just a matter of a sprinting race), and even then the only character who can really get to any given item without fear of being attacked in their haste is Sonic who, from what I hear, isn't exactly in the "better" camp. Admittedly, Fox and Cap as well, depending on who they're fighting against.
Still, there are several characters I wouldn't use many items on because their regular moves are more reliable, including some of the slower characters.
In any case, I find that items tend to favor people who know how to use them effectively and fail against those who know how to fight against them, otherwise it becomes more or less a regular fight with an extra attack, especially since, with admittedly several notable exceptions (*coughfancough*), many of the items aren't exactly game breaking. Even the Hammer is easier to counter in Brawl.

I remember the beam sword was redundant in Link's hands in Melee. Speaking of, speed for items actually doesn't always end up as much of an advantage in one on one, or even free for alls, but it really does help in team matches. Pichu, who was pretty sorry most of the time was really annoying in team battles. Sometimes I think the designers really did try to balance characters more than we give them credit for. Fox seemed a lot less annoying in Free For Alls than one on ones.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackJigglypuff is so much more annoying though :(

It Just Bugs MeBeam Sword, redundant? Dude. You actually used those things for melee attacks? Beam Swords are for throwing at your opponent when they're off the stage or least expecting it.
Back when I was still playing the original game, with items on and everything, my specialty was to throw Beam Swords (and other items) off the stage to intercept recovering enemies with perfect timing.
I kinda like holding onto my Beam Sword with Peach. It's not a bad weapon though she's better with her usual assortment of ground moves.
It Just Bugs MeYeah, throwing the sword was about the only good it did with Link, but it was a useful swinging weapon for well almost everyone else even Marth and Roy could get mileage out of it, since you didn't have to play the distance game anymore and got a pretty looking smash attack.

Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackYeah, some characters got more mileage out of the Beam Sword than others.
Personally, I love the Fan. It's broken good.

Hey, fellas.
Any word on the next Smash? 'Cuz I'd rather like to see Mega Man on there. And Dixie Kong.

I heard that they were supposed to be in the series from the very beginning.
