What? No one is interested? Mayhaps I was being too vauge...
But one can't start a story wihout a basic premise...so it's idea time.
Sooo..what do you think about this plot: Empire A is experiencing escalation of tension with empire B, with fleets moving to borders as shows of force. Empire C, allies of A, organize combined fleet exercises to better prove a point. Except that C end up betraying A and siding with B, thus having a large part of A's forces destroyed in their combined attack. Empire A fights on, but ti's loosing ground. Cue our heroes, who were at a station/shipyard when the news hit and quickly organize a retreat as they take out a incomplete warship out of the drydock to buy time for the evac. And thus starts a tale of a valiant battle against the odds.
Sounds simple enough, but the devil is in the details, no?
Who should the heroes be? A inexperienced skeleton crew? Cadets that were touring the shipyard/station at the time? Grizzled veteran lounging at hte station bar? The construction crew on the shipyard? Maybe also survivors from another firnedly vessel? All of the above?
What about the warship? What type of ship? How big? How advanced? How complete? (Personally I'd go with a highly advanced battleship whose engines were finished ahead of schedule, thus throwing a cog in the enemy plans. Heck, destroying ti before it becomes operational could even be what pushed the war to start sooner...or something)
Then there's bigger question - how should the story finish? What should be the end atmosphere? Happy ending? Glorious death of everyone in a desperate gamble? A not-so-glorious death and a failed plan?
The motivation and morality of the empires a,b,c? did you plan the Big Bad?

dunno if this might work better in worldbuilding or what.
Anyway, he basic idea is this - creating a specific setting and creating a story in it. A story that could fit a single season anime. And it would work similar to a roleplay.
The plot and characters are discussed and everyone gets to pitch in with ideas on what and how...then a story segement is posted and the brainstorming for the next segment would begin. Of course, a specific atmosphere will have to be maintained, so one couldn't write whatever and insert whatever characters.
For starters, the setting and overall plot. I was thinking something like Starship Operators - I likes the general idea of that one. Hard(ish) sci-fi with space battles and shit...only hopefully pulled off better.
Thoughts?
