User Deleting WMGs

I first saw this in WMG.Smallville, I restored them, and continued.

Then I noticed WMG.The Sarah Jane Adventures had them deleted by the same person (Tropers. The Demus) too. I checked a few more pages and found this in WMG.Supernatural.

Are people supposed to do this? We usually leave around old WMGs and tolerate more discussion in WMGs than in the main page. And not all of the WMGs he deleted are like that—some it looks like he deleted just for being silly, which really isn't right.

(And is there any way to find out what he recently deleted so they can be restored?)

BTW, in general posting in Ask The Tropers will tend to get a faster response, though in this particular instance since it's oh-dark-thirty for the US (where, IIRC, much of the site staff live) it may be somewhat of a moot point, as far as speed is concerned.

(edit) I dropped a note there, giving credit to this thread.

I'd consider deleting WM Gs to be bad manners.

(Although I wouldn't be opposed to deleting all "Character X is a Time Lord!" entries)

I'd consider it to be vandalism unless there was a directive from the staff that said that they're not supposed to be around anymore.

Guy was banned. Feel free to restore the WMG he deleted.

When I look at that list he seems to have been doing them alphabetically, doing letters B-D, then some scattered ones, then R-V. This is very odd unless he has another account and did the rest of the letters in it....

Anyone want to help restore these? I just restored Buffy and a couple more B's. Still not sure everything is in the right place, because the "click to see context" doesn't show anything to indicate where the text was deleted from (and it's probably not on the line number that's shown if other things have changed the page since then).

^ Most WMGs aren't dependent on a particular order, other than within their individual segments for each theory. I don't see why they'd need to go back in a specific order.

[up] Mostly true, but some mention the previous WMG. But those are obvious.

What about WM Gs that have been firmly Jossed, or similar? Hell, we have a couple of WM Gs were the justification is just "Why not?", some that suggests that characters are really from other shows, and... Shall we just let WMG fall to insanity? Personally I don't really see the problem with deleting stuff in that section, as long as you aren't deleting actual guesswork.

Why not move those to a Jossed WMG page instead?

The purpose of WMG isn't to create a list of true statements about the show.

WMG was made for silly and tongue-in-cheek guesses (see the Programme Note.) People taking it seriously are the recent imposition.

It's called WILD mass guessing for a reason.

Right, I understand that, but I mean why not split Jossed and Confirmed WMG's to their own pages rather than deleting them? I think that there is value in seeing which of those wild guesses actually came true, and which got shot down.

Doing so both preserves the record of those guesses, while also freeing up space for more on the same page.

We only split pages up when they're actually getting big enough to be a problem.

I was responding to the mention of cases where some of them are being deleted. I was putting that forward as an alternative to deleting Jossed or Confirmed entries.

edit: Also, size has been getting to be a problem more and more these days, as evidenced by the Big Pages Lock thread. There's nothing wrong with being proactive and splitting large pages before they start breaking.
