Final Fantasy: Infinity interest thread

This is an RP I GMed once in the Role Playing Games Classic boards and I wonder if it could be revived here. The concept is simple: What if all Final Fantasy characters (from any of the games, or even the anime) existed in the same world? Who would be friends then, who would be foes? You can play as any of the characters or even make up your own.

Note that unlike Dissidia, this isn't a Crisis Crossover- it's an Alternate Universe Fic where everyone always lived in the same world. However, NONE of the major events have happened yet - Meteor hasn't crashed yet, Time hasn't compressed, Sin hasn't revived, etc. Which of these events will happen (and when) will be decided as the game progresses.

World description:

- The World is BOTH medieval AND Futuristic. The big cities have advanced technology, the rest are poor villages.

-All races from all the games exist here (there are even talking Chocobos), but humes (humans) are the most common.

-The Summons are a special case: since there are so many different versions, we'll have to invent specific ones for this game.

-You can play as ANY character. However it will be first come, first served so if you REALLY want to play, say, Sephiroth, sign up NOW!

-Original characters must be of a class available in one of the games. You can be multiclassed however.

Nice seeing you, GG! Hopefully we'll have as much fun here. Let's see how much interest is there first though.

Here's so more Worldbuilding info:

-The Summons are basically this world's deities (think about it: immortal, specialized powers that they can grant to people, their acts often influence the world, etc.) Of course they aren't equally as powerful, Caith Sith is probably at the bottom of the ladder for example.

-The "Jobs" are actually guilds. In addition to teaching you all kinds of powers, they fulfill social roles, for example The Summoners are the Priest Class, The Engineers have a monopoly on technology, etc. Any current member of a guild MUST wear their specific uniform (horns and robes for summoners etc.) Ex-members don't have to but they won't learn any more powers from the guild of course.

-There's LOTS of crystals in this world, ranging from materia crystals (as in Final Fantasy VII) sold in shops to THE Four Crystals that sustain the world. (Final Fantasy V)

-In case anybody's wondering, Phoenix Downs just wake up unconscious people, they don't revive the dead. That can be done but only with lost or forbidden magic. So yeah, Aeris CAN die.

-The talking chocobos are a hidden race, most chocobos are unintelligent steeds.

Oooh! Tempted to join as the Onion Knight... Or maybe someone from V? I dunno.

How's this? Since there's so many characters to choose from (or make) we can switch characters later on. So if you get tired of being, say, a hume, you can continue playing as a moogle, for example. Just let us know about the switch first! Abandoned characters become NPCs until someone else picks them. Fair?

I'd like to join as Black Mage.

I'm considering applying for the position of Sabin Rene Figaro. What do you suppose the current state of the Royal House of Figaro is?

If at all possible, I'd prefer him not to be estranged from his brother, but you're the almighty GM.

Since this is an Alternate Reality game -the whole point is to see how the characters' lives would diverge from the original games'- I'm OK with that GG.

All character requests so far are approved.

It looks like there is some interest in the game, so I'll launch it soon. There's still time for others to join however (and you can join after the game starts too- just be sure to post your character here.)

But first, I think we need to decide on the *specific* quest to start with (even if we later drop it). In the original RP, we battled The Empire (from Final Fantasy VI) -you know, the one with Kefka- as it expanded and conflicted with other nations. That's an easy one to insert characters into. (Of course being a Final Fantasy, something much more epic is cooking in the background.) Is this OK? I'm open to other suggestions as well.

I have a character I'd like to RP, he would be a Junior Judge from the Final Fantasy XII verse, currently learning his job. His tropes would be: Dogged Nice Guy, Hidden Depths, he wields two sided sword. His name is Paxton Vei Isleburg.

If we get an OC sheet, I can develop him further.

Nick: that's acceptable. There's no specific character sheet yet, but you'll need:

-Identity: name, personal background, etc.

-Description of his/her personality

-Appearance (remember race must be from the games) and using the correct costume (If active in a guild).

-Abilities- Must have at least one FF Job. No exact level is needed, you can describe him as an "average level Dragoon". You can invent your own Limit Breaks if you want.

Ok, I'm waiting for two people I invited to respond before I start this, should know soon. Also, I've decided that the menace hidden behind the events in this world are Evil Summons such as Ultima from Final Fantasy Tactics. Should be epic enough!

Ah, the amnesic attempting to deny his own forgetfulness, and the senile magic user. It seems we meet again, in a different time, and a different place.

A new breeding ground for a new wave of Glenton related crimes.

• name: Paxton Vei Aesburg

• personal background: Paxton is a sub-Judge of the Archadian Empire, in command of the mid size battle ship Paramina. Paxton is the son of an influential Archadian noble and a woman from Nabudis, who died shortly after Paxton's birth. He suspected someone had poisoned her, and so he decided to never allow his loved ones to be hurt ever again, and enrolled in the Academy of Judges. He graduated at age 18, and became a Junior Judge in short order, and climbing the social hierarchy. He was awarded the battleship from Vayne in exchange for volunteering to play a part in any upcoming Xanatos Gambits. There are a few rumors that Paxton's mother may well still be alive, and more yet that she might have ties to the Nabradian Royalty. Paxton has said nothing on the subject.

• Description of his/her personality: Despite the job, this kid is nice. Nice, nice, nice. The sun is always shining in Paxton's little world...just do not do ANYTHING to upset said world. You will find out how many crimes he can accuse you of, and then summarily kill you brutally. Despite his niceness, he is known for being ferocious in a fight. Thus, the old Claudio dynamic "A lion on the battlefield, a lamb off of it." Paxton is willing to do quite a lot to make sure his family name is glorified, and more in the name of Archadia. He is a Determinator, no matter how bad things get, kiddo here will find the ability to fight on. He does get a little Hot-Blooded and passionate about things, sometimes to his detriment. He has his eye on becoming a Judge Magister.

• Appearance: He is a sandy blond haired young man, of only a little slight features but he is more handsome and has a stronger build. He has sincere, very pleasant looking blue eyes. He wears the constant Judge armor, except his has a slightly more blue tone to it, and has a very knight-like appearance. His weapon is a long broadsword that can split in half and become a two sided sword, and further be split into two long swords.

• Abilities- He mostly has the skills of a Paladin, combined with some Magic Knight abilities. He has been implanting some slim bars of Nethicite into his arms and legs, mainly because he was concerned that he was falling behind in terms of power. Thus, he has greater physical abilities. His abilities are as follows:

• Rending Strike: powers up the sword and hits the enemy...really hard.
• Neth Blade: Nethicite Stones in the sword release a powerful blast.
• Fira, Thundara, Blizzara
• Curaga: He can heal people
• Limit Break: Innocent Sorrow: Essentially a Wave Motion Sword, this attack can rip through nearly anything

While I'd LOVE to join, I don't really have much time at the moment. I'd love to do FFIII's Onion Knight, but... I'm thinking of taking Arc's character from the DS remake, just 'cause I like how he looks and think I could play him better... Of course, I'd add in elements of OK, like the switching-classes-in-battle thing, if I could at least... Of course, I'd just stick with one class or the other if I needed to, or had him switch guilds often instead if I'm allowed to, though I'd love to play up the switching-classes thing, even if it's in other games(V in particular...)

But I can't join officially until the weekend, maybe later depending on my time. 'Cause it's finals week(yay T-T) and they start tomorrow and pick up on Monday, after the weekend. So... I'll officially decide and stuff once that happens. So until then, could you reserve Arc and/or OK, or at least strongly frown at anyone else who wants them? :3

Wait, is it too late to switch?

I decided that 8BT-Black Mage would basically be Kefka with a hat, so I'm going to switch to Kefka.

Sorry I haven't started this yet, folks, I've been a little ill. Nothing serious, I hope to start the game by the weekend.

And yes, you still have time to switch. I'll add the changes requested to the list.

Re the changing Jobs thing, I'd say that its only possible with the right artifacts (the spheres from X-2, the crystal shards from FFV, etc.) but otherwise I'm not opposed to it.

In that case job changing must be available for anyone who got their hands on artifact, not OC only. Still better then make to each char to follow his game's system (Auron with enough grid grinding can learn all abillities in game, for example).

But I don't actually want any job change, either.
