Ancient Relics is the New DLC. More of a story-pack than a full-fledged DLC, but a nice touch.
The Minor Artifacts thing I like, and it's also moddable, which I'm expecting to see exploited ruthlessly to turn your Empire into a Juggernaut with the sort of mods that are going to come out based on that.
Stellaris has a tradition of thinly veiled take thats, it seems, I lost count of how many times a variation of "This society was stupid enough to wipe itself out before achieving space exploration" showed up.
It also likes to poke fun at itself - there's an event about a society that wiped itself out over a dispute over what "Collectivism" and "Individualism" mean.
As far as hilarity goes, nothing beats the Tea Cup event.
First time I got it I had to pause the game a bit to catch my breath, it's just .
I still love the "pot of flowers floating around a sun" event and how it stands a change to either fail or succeed, and if it fails the scientist goes "WHY?! WHYYYYYYYY?!"
But yeah I'm waiting for someone to just mod the fucking Forerunners into there so that so many people can make the Covenant.
And then there's Bubbles.
Oh, the Space Amoeba? It's adorable, but how good a unit it is? I've tried deploying it, but thus far my fleet always finishes the fight before it gets there.
She does become pretty strong after a hundred years, but at this point you're usually fielding much stronger fleets already.
Usually, I just keep her above my capital as a national treasure.
Fun fact: Bubble's event chain is not locked behind ethics - so even xenophobes can have her.
I simply call it Fluffy. Why?
Because nothing beats seeing an Absolute Xenophobe Empire Fleet with a name like "XYZ Eradicators" being utterly curbstomped by a Space Amoeba Alien named Fluffy.
How's that genocide working for you now, Purity Assembly?
As for the Flowerpot around the Sun, what gets me everytime is the scream of WHY followed by "50 Influence Gained". Never fails to send me into hysterics.
Wait, are there separate events for a flowerpot anda teapot?
I may be misremembering the specifics.
I picked Renegade as the name when I got the Amoeba. Because she breaks all the rules and she's on her own when we find her.
Doing my first MTG game of Hearts of Iron IV. Doing Communist Japan vs the fascist entire goddamn world. Scripted every major possible (and several minors) to go fascist and join the Axis and gave them +5 buffs. Goal: In one of the hardest ideological routes, save the darkest timeline. After this, I'll explore the new focus trees.

I haven't played Vanilla HOI in a long time.
I may go for Belgium just to see how that's changed in its focus tree.
It hasn't. Belgium's still generic. The Netherlands got an update, tho.
I feel violated. I put a lot of Influence and those newfangled "Alloys" towards snaking in as quick as I could to cut off my neighbors' expansion with my own starbases. Then I get distracted for ten minutes being underwhelmed by the results of my dig sites, and bam! The scunners actually sent their Construction Ships through my space to claim systems even two, three jumps from their own territory! And it's not just me, the part of the galaxy where the two other big empires are is a mess of leapfrogging claims.
That's not how it's supposed to work, game, I'm supposed to be able to bottle up my neighbors while still enjoying the diplomatic benefits of open borders. Instead I'm having to micromanage my empire more than I did when I literally conquered the galaxy while at the same time watching for any neutral Construction Ships trying to casually pass through my space.
Closed borders are your best friend. Bit of a relations hit, but it lets you corral people to do what you want.
Thinking about slapping together a mod that expands the Japanese communist tree, which just kind of ends at most 3/4 of the way through - joining or forming a faction should be a means to an ends, no the ends itself.
I'm not sure where to go with following Join Comintern and I suppose joining in on the classic GER-SOV war is the main point, but Japanese-Soviet tech sharing is definitely a thing I'm going to add, focusing on sharing each others' strengths - armor and ships. This one was pretty easy and I just have to localize it.
For Asian Communist Solidarity, my first step is to let Japan steal Communist China from the Comintern or form the faction even if Communist China doesn't currently exist. From there, the intended focuses are "Rekindle the Chinese Revolution" (if PRC does not exist, gain liberate wargoal against all Chinese warlords to restore it), "Spread the Revolution to Southeast Asia" (government change wargoal on Siam, conquer wargoal and Dutch East Indies if they're still subjects of HOL, conquer wargoal on Indochina if France still owns it - if I can be bothered to put in the effort to write some events, I'll also add some Kaiserreich-esque events to either release the newly conquered countries as same-ideology independent states, as puppets at a small political power cost, or annex them at a large political power, stability, and war support cost), which would lead to "Liberate the Dominions" (conquer wargoal on India, Australia, and New Zealand if they're not independent and communist, ideally with similar release/puppet/GIB CLAY options) and "Demand Philippine Independence (US gets event demanding the Philippines be given independence, with will most likely be rejected, and can be rejected with an immediate declaration of war, is bypassed if the Philippines are already independent). Once the other focuses are completed, it unlocks "A Red Pacific" (conquest wargoal on the US, bypassed if already at war with the US). Probably also throw in a focus to declare war on the Berlin-Moscow Axis if that abomination exists.
I'm aware that this is kind of Co-Prosperity Sphere like, but geopolitical goals in the region kind of tend to point that way and I hopefully events to liberate conquered countries will give it at least somewhat different flavor.

You know what would be a fun idea for a mod? Making the British Raj breaking away from Britain far more interesting other than Partition, Communism or Fascism.
It's bizarre that there's no reliable way to switch it over to Democracy, given that historically, the Non-Aligned factions did exactly that.
No idea what this is about, but it showed up in my youtube feed just now, so:
Yes, I got it in the mail, too. Apparently it is another game where you take over an empire. A criminal empire, this time.
Yeah, it was announced at the E3 PC show.
Now that's really cool!
Can't wait to establish my Bratva dominance over New York!
So Omerta / gangsters but with better combat and systems, hopefully!
It's probably what they roped in Avellone for besides Bloodlines 2. Looks cool though.
