too-long page repair

Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Should the Wild Mass Guessing be split into subpages of indexes, or should we just delete it and use the automated list?

Also, I did Noodle Incident.

WMG.Real Life is done. I split it off into two archive pages, since the normal Open/Jossed/Silly conventions wouldn't apply.

edit @ Kris: I've been splitting WMG pages in the method that ccoa mentioned a few pages back, going through all the entries and sorting them into Open Guesses, Jossed, Confirmed, and Silly guesses. Since the directive is to get the pages under 200k, you will probably need two open pages, as that makes up the lions share in my experience.

For an example of how I've done this, see WMG.One Piece.

No, the actual Wild Mass Guessing page. It's an index. I was asking whether it should be split into smaller indexes or if we should link to the automated namespace index.

Oh, duh, brain-dead moment for me. Yeah, I would split the page by the current folder categories, making it an index of WMG indexes.... but that's just my opinion.

The same could be said for JustBugsMe.Home Page.

And as a little bonus: ShoutOut.Mass Effect.

Sorry it's taken so long. My computer's malfunctioning and I've had to do this on an iPod touch.

I concur on Just Bugs Me. Move examples that share a name with the folder to "X In General" (i.e the pre-existing Comics In General)

Totemic Hero and Kris Mahai have done Eye Scream, while Kris Mahai also did Noodle Incident. Can we get an updated list?

I'm going to see what I can do with WMG.ptitlei015gc004kw4

Edit: This is done, for now. I think some further splitting could happen, but I am going to try to get some consensus on the discussion page first. The current split pages are all in <200,000 character chunks, at least.

Thanks! waii

At least for me, this has been a fun project. It's been a nice change from my usual daily folderizing sprees, at least.

My next target is JustBugsMe.Home Page.

^^ Or we're nuts. What Meeble said. I think most of the people here enjoy doing it.

Wild Mass Guessing is now an index index.

By the way. I can't help but notice everyone including me is deliberately ignoring that one Pantheon page that needs to be split. I barely even know how the Pantheon works, but does anyone who spends a lot of time there have any idea how to split it?

I just cut cutlisted the Full Pantheon page for redundancy. No idea about this one though.

I actually mentioned the Pantheon page a few pages back, because I intended on splitting it myself.

However, when I mentioned something on the discussion page there, I was informed that there was already an ongoing effort to split the page being hashed out on the main pantheon article discussion. Since I had absolutely no idea how everything was being organized on their new system (I didn't even know this page existed before this thread), I decided to leave that effort to them.

Of the ones from Fast Eddie's last post only the following need to still be done (please correct me if I have omitted any)

I am going to try working on: WMG.FriendsAndTheHighCouncil... if I can get the page to load... I'm done with WMG.FriendsAndTheHighCouncil.

I did a little bit of TearJerker.Literature, but there's so much This Troper my eyes are crossing. I'm not sure whether I should chop half of it or throw my hands up and move it, Natter and all.

Question: are This Tropers just changed to "I", or is first person discouraged altogether on Moment pages? (Tear Jerker, Nightmare Fuel, Funny Moments, etc.)

I thought it was discouraged on Moments/Nightmare Fuel but allowed on WMG, JBM, Troper Tales, etc.

Kris, I noticed your message on the discussion page of Freedom City Play By Post, so I will leave that to you and take WMG.Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha instead.
