Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Explanation of what triggers the too-long page warning

Split alphabetically in half?
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupAs I said, going by the byte count calculation I did in my initial post, it should be A-L and M-Z.
"Rarity, are you okay? We gotta get you and your friends outta here soon!"I mean I'm that and don't think it'd be an issue to go with it.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupVideo Games of the 1990s is displaying the warning. Perhaps the games pages could have separate subpages/folders for franchises, just like the movie pages have?
Well, it seems like you're doing something. If we still need to do something after you're done, why not do the Split By Half-Decades like the other pages?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576The half decade suggestion might be simpler, because there’s a lot of games I’m not familiar enough with to know whether they’re part of franchises.
I've split it into Summary.Video Games Number To L and Summary.Video Games M To Z.

RoleAssociation.Video Games English A To K is also displaying the warning.
Characters. The Elder Scrolls Online is displaying the warning.
(Kinda wondering if the too-long threshold might be breaking again with all this increased activity.)
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Video Games of the 2000s is displaying the warning.
Noting for posterity that I split Classical Mythology Olympians since it was displaying the warning; I’ll do Classical Mythology: Mortals and Demigods tomorrow if I have the time & energy.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.I would say 2000-2004, 2005-2009 like the other similar cases we had.
1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (all editions) progress: 426/1089 (39.12%)- Yeah. I was wondering how 1990-1999 had the warning but 2000s didn't.
Should we start mandating half-decades now instead of full ones for Video Games?

^ We could split off one of the longer folders (ex. Anime) into its own page.

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Already? Oh boy, this would mean 5-year intervals will not suffice in that case.
In this case I suppose 2020-2022, 2023-2026 would do (with an implied 2027-2029 on the horizon when we get that far).
EDIT: Music of the 2000s now has it. I'll work a split the same way I did Music of the 2010s about a year back. I suppose I'll also remove the Genres section too (and on other decade indices).
EDIT 2: And speaking of Music of the 2010s... here we go again with Music of 2010–2014. Somebody readded genres there when past discussions here said to remove them.

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (all editions) progress: 426/1089 (39.12%)Ouch, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker got hit as well. It's happened already to other Zelda games, so I can at least propose a solution when looking at the precedents. The page's examples are currently distributed across six folders. Maybe split into two subpages, one for the first three (thus A to M), and another for the other three (thus N to Z)?
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Throwing my hat in the ring for the 2020-2022/2023-2026/2027-2029 scheme, which we can copy on other pages where applicable.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Maybe remove the genres, citing the discussion, and see if the page still needs to be split afterwards.
It still puts the notice up. Even if it didn't it may still get to that point so may as well start.
EDIT: Still has that up for 2010-2014 too. May as well split the decade into 2010-2012, 2013-2016 and 2017-2019. This is going to suck...
