Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Explanation of what triggers the too-long page warning

Summary.Video Games is big enough to be slow loading when trying to edit it? Split out the last two folders since they're not games, but Creators and Useful Notes?
Or just make some pages?

![]()
Downloading the page produces a 913 KB (!) file. Part of the problem is the long list of subpage links at the top, which don't count for purposes of the warning, but still, I'm a bit amazed it's not triggering the warning.
Probably just split them similarly to the other split seasons on either side of it.
Characters. My Hero Academia All For One is triggering the warning.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBeen looking at the code, and tropes in the examples section have a "title" attribute for the links. Isn't that just useless bloat since hovering over links with only an "href" gives the same target info, like the "Tropes" at the top "main-header-bar"?

Fanfics of 2010–2013 is giving the warning. The obvious solution is to redistribute it and the other two Fanfics of the 2010s subpages by every two years, but I'm starting to have concerns about what all these splits do to the navigational header. Namely, adding excessive numbers of links to increasingly smaller subcategories. If nothing changes, we're eventually going to reach a point where the header will take up too much space due to containing multiple instances of "fanfiction of X individual year".
Would it be reasonable to overhaul the headers for the "fanfic by year" indexes to use the more efficient header style seen on the likes of Characters.Pokemon's subpages? Under this system, the various "fanfic of X decade" pages" would have links to the other overarching decades' fanfic indexes, while subpages would just list something like the following:
Cave Johnson, we're done here.YMMV.Genshin Impact is giving the warning. Still editable, but...
How about splitting out Complacent Gaming Syndrome, Demonic Spiders? They're about three screens for me?

SING TO ME, LEND ME THE SONG OF BLASPHEMYNightmareFuel.Public Service Announcements Safety is giving me the warning that it's too long. I think that the road safety examples should be given their own page given just how large the section is. (also, in that event, the page image should probably be moved there as well since it's from a road safety campaign)
"It was the best of times, it was the BLURST of times?"Completed Fic is giving the warning. I'm guessing it'd be best to move one of the sections to its own page? (I think Western Animation is the longest).
The Crossover folder is actually the largest in terms of raw size, it just doesn't look like it because it has only two folders. Animanga actually isn't that far ahead of Video Games. When I copy them to my sandbox and download them, Crossover is 230 KB, Western Animation 218, Animanga 155.
(Also, should the fanfic-recs-y descriptions on some entries be there?)
RoleAssociation.Video Games English L To Z - I guess we just split it more?

Looking at Completed Fic... Do we need all the fic descriptions? If we remove those, will we fall under the limit?
Just removing two one-shots removed the warning. Someone should watch it, if no one is.

I'm too lazy (and at work) to implement these, but here are some ways to fix the pages listed at Overly Long Pages:
