I will said that while TJL is controversial and in my opinion isn't that good, it was for complete other reasons, one of them is that it tried to be radical and pull a change of status quo in one movie after all years of established canon and the previous movie being a homenage to the old trilogy as far as they could be without plagiarizing(and even them....), and that it order to set a new status quo, some stuff they did feel a little bit misplace like how Ben and Luke fall out can be reduce to a single thing Luke does(lighting is lightsaber for a moment) feel in a "reallY?".

but is diferent, Johnson is not dealing with a series he have to adapt with faithfullness or not, but a movie franchise, plain and simple.

Now, with D&D, while they commit planty of mistakes, is clearly they try their best to adapt the book, and in that regard the show was good, but when they wasnt any more material to adapt...well, things go messy.

What I want to know is what material they were to use in this prequel.

Article from Watchers on the Wall which I doubt will change any minds but I thought worth posting:

I've been seeing people posting links to the actual audio from there saying that Watchers On The Wall isn't being accurate themselves to defend them.

Deleted scene from The Long Night. Yet Another Stupid Death that shows why Alyss Karstark just disappeared, she for some reason wandered away from the rest of the Ironborn to scout the rest of the Godswood.

Also explains why there were exclusively archers around the Hearttree instead of anyone with a melee weapon -_-.

[up] I wondered what happened to Alyce Karstark. That sucks, I kinda liked her. Not that it really matters. She was a goner the moment when Ned Umber appeared on the wall art. And to be honest, I thought her long red hair, suddenly suspiciously similar to Sansa's, would be milked more for her death.

I also saw the second deleted scene in the crypt with risen Starks. I'm not sure how much sense those make anyway — wouldn't most of them be dust at that point? Now if they included wight Rickon, that would be something. Or Ned's headless body. That Sansa and Tyrion's attack from the back is hilarious in a Narm way. It's probably for the best it was cut from the episode; on the other hand, it felt as if something was missing from the scenes in the crypt.

Seriously, though, at this point any logic had long flown out the window, especially considering the fact that they thought it a good idea to hide the civilians in a crypt full of dead people while being invaded by necromancers in the first place (which is lampshaded by Peter Dinklage in the behind-the-scenes video for that episode).

“He’s smart, but not that smart” will always kill me because Tyrion IS that smart, it’s just that the writers have no fucking clue how to write a character with an iota of intelligence.

[up][up] Because the Idiot Ball is the easiest way to generate drama.

Though I have pointed out before that a lot of the advice Tyrion gave wasn't actually that stupid - the reason his plans kept being thwarted because the writers needed them to fail to keep the drama going.

Same reason Daenerys somehow lost multiple fleets and two dragons for contrived reasons - because they couldn't figure out a way to not have her just stomp Cersei, as she rightfully should have been able to.

Cersei being able to hold onto any power at this point just was the cherry on top of a bullshit sundae.

In hindsight, I've always been pretty forgiving about a lot of nonsense the series threw at the audience towards the end and I think it was for one big reason: I figured the ending might have worth it.

So when it wasn't worth all the nonsense, yeah, I basically told the people I usualy argued with: "You know what, even I can't defend this anymore."

I feel like removing most of the magic was the biggest problem. The books have a strong 'the magic comes back' vibe, and magic is probably going to have a pretty big role in the climax there. D&D's decision to huck all the magic out the window save what was necessary to set the story up probably bollocksed it up in the home stretch.

Hence why despite the show being over I'm still going to read the books. Martin will find a way to end it well.

Last year, I wrote up an extensive article on "Empire of Ash", the Doom of Valyria prequel pitch that I leaked out via Game of Thrones Wiki. Some months ago, the TV Tropes admins deleted the article, on the grounds that there wasn't any independent proof that it even exists. Admittedly, it's a "pitch" idea and basically vaporware, though things are in flux at the moment; HBO has new leadership, it was the old leadership that picked Long Night prequel, but that's cancelled now after a rejected pilot.

They ordered a full season of House of the Dragon (probably Dance of the Dragons), though GRRM himself keeps hinting that AT&T is sort of open to the idea of making a second prequel at the same time (HBO Max needs a lot of content to compete with other streamers). So while backburnered, Valyria was a fairly well developed prequel pitch, with its own series bible and everything, and a season one outline.

well, David J. Peterson - the official linguist for the franchise who created Dothraki and Valyrian langauges - just let it slip in an interview that the Old Valyria prequel is indeed real. He was mostly talking about the recently cancelled Long Night prequel....but at one point, he briefly but very clearly explained that he was first called on to work on the Valyria prequel, but then that got put on hold for Long Night. the host asked him to confirm if he meant it was an "Old Valyria" prequel, and Peterson confirmed it was the "Old Valyria prequel".

I made this clip of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLKcWQOvgzk

So now we have proof that the pitch idea for Empire of Ash is indeed real, though currently in development hell. With this as a basis I would like the admins to un-delete the original article I wrote up (I plan to cut out all the lengthy intro parts explaining that it was known only from a leak, and instead focus on the story descriptions and faction descriptions).

I would be very surprised if they go for it. Unless things have changed dramatically from when last I was active there, official wiki policy is that we do not trope leaks.

Just a random rambling.

As no doubt brought up in this thread and many websites/youtube channels/etc, I find it such a big shame we never got to see Bran warging into a motherfucking dragon in this series (by which I refer to the tv series, not the books). I thought it was a cool thing that could've happened in the final few episodes. -sighs-

Bran's warging abilities were really underused. He only seemed to warg into the murder of crows and nothing else by the end. They didn't even use his completely unheard of capacity to Warg into humans (as he showed with Hodor).

Personally I thought it'd have been cool if Bran warged into random people during the battle to save "those needed in the wars to come", as a sort of In-Universe plot armor to the heroes.

Is there any truth to the rumor that the season 8 showrunner/writers were trying to wrap up the season to get in on a Star Wars series? What I have heard is that the negative reaction to GOT S8 caused Disney/Lucasfilm to turn them down.

At least that's what I have heard.

I mean it is obvious that they wanted the series to be over. HBO offered some more seasons but they declined. The reason for their refusal is open to interpretation.

But I am glad that they lost the Star Wars deal. They have their merit, but creating a rich, entertaining story on their own is not one them.
