I was happy when I saw the little glance between Renly and Loras at the joust, but I thought it was a little too unsubtle to give them a whole scene of shirtless scheming right afterward. Dole it out slowly, show! I would accept it if it turns out that the Queen of Thorns gave Loras his idea...
I really liked the confrontation between Jaime and Ned. Our first look at Jaime when he's not smug and evil.
This was a Dany and Jon-free episode. Was anyone getting AFFC flashbacks?

We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!People, use spoiler tags...
(To clarify, I've read the books; I'm just worried about other people who haven't. Although obviously they should.
Also, I'm not actually even watching the show due to a) not having HBO and b) being the sort of person who would spend the entire time muttering to himself about every slight difference from the book; I'm just reading the thread because I'm such a huge fan of the books.)

It's sad to use spoiler tags when a book is getting on 15 years old.

Ugh, but there's so many other things I have to watch and read and play already, I'm buried under media, and I haven't seen any Fire and Ice books anywhere.....I guess I'll skip this show then.
I found this, but, wow, this isn't for me then. Way too much to take in.
I've just got too many other things I'm wrapped up in....

DumboTrying to think up a Drinking Game for the show, so far all I got is take a drink when someone blond does something evil and take a drink whenever two people discuss off-screen backstory.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. My friend and I were going to play a drinking game with the series. Take a shot anytime there is something that foreshadows a later event, or is ironic because of a later event. We decided against doing that though, since we would have died in the first twenty minutes of the show.
You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.Take a shot whenever a Stark puts Honor Before Reason or a Lannister is being a Manipulative Bastard. Take a shot whenever there is incestuous text or subtext.

He's hilarious. And rather good too. He's sold me. Get Joe on the Show!
Well, that was interesting. Looks like Ned has figured out the prince's secret, Dance Teacher was awesome again, and the 'crowning' was especially brutal.
"The marvel is not that the Bear posts well, but that the Bear posts at all."Tyrion's "confession" was hilarious. It even seemed like in-series, some of the crowd had an Actually Pretty Funny reaction.
Also, while I can guess that the implications of his reaction won't bode well for Ned, I was kind of amused by the fact that when the peasant guy mentioned that the leader of the people who sacked their village was a huge man who beheaded a horse, Ned and Littlefinger both look at each other and Littlefinger comments, "Sounds like someone we know."
That was an interesting scene with Joffrey doing a pretty good job of pretending to be a gallant prince and Sansa falling for it completely (the nasty way she treated that servant before makes me understand why she's unpopular with readers of the books).
About the spoilers: Yeah, I felt a bit bad for the guy during the crowning, but he really crossed the line beforehand. It was clear that Dany was finally tired of protecting him given his treatment of her. As for the "Joffrey DNA question", it kind of surprises me that no one really thought that was odd before. The fact that all of Robert's family have black hair proves something amiss is going on, but even if that wasn't the case, I'd think people might find it of some interest that Joffrey takes after his mother rather than his father- which is generally a normal thing, but still something people might mention.
He has dickish moments, but I agree that it seems a bit out of proportion to what he deserves.

Hodor

Jaime is also pretty much the only person in all Seven Kingdoms who gives a rat's ass what happens to Tyrion; Cercei and Tywin certainly don't.
