Holy damn, I think the Hurt Business was one of the best things that happened to all involved in a long time. Lashley gets to drop that terrible Lana angle in exchange for a world title, MVP gains a relevant position without overexerting himself and Shelton and Cedric gain more TV exposure, which is nice. My only (minor) complaint was Lashley not getting the gold in a PPV, but at least this makes it easier for us to see. :)

Watching a music video of Mikey Whipwreck that starts with his interview right after he won the TV belt.

....You won't hear stuff like that inteverview now. Little dude looking like he just got his ass kicked, admitting he's probably gonna get rekt in his next match and just looking so....pathetic despite being the champion.

His reaction to finding out he'd have to take on Kevin Sullivan...poor guy. He knows he's a dead man....and yet he still states he'll be a fighting champion and take on all comers.

I wish I could have been there in the day, to watch Mikey's evolution to what he is now.

Mikey Whipwreck, proving any man with two hands has a fighting chance years before James Ellsworth ever came along and opened his mouth.

Sigh... from what I've heard fairly consistently, Ellsworth has a reputation in his home region of DC/Baltimore as being generally scummy. I don't know what exactly he did or didn't do. But it is good to know that there's others who have done his role before and after, who aren't that way.

Damn. I liked his line.

Now I gotta ignore it because of the kind of person he is in real life.

You don't have to, and I haven't been able to confirm anything yet, so it might just be that he's a bully or something bad, but not completely evil.

AEW Revolution tidbits:

  • Sting and Darby had a great, Lucha Underground-esque match.
  • Hikaru Shida and Ryo Mizunami put out a excellent women's match.
  • Scorpio Sky got his due in a ladder match.
  • Christian is All-Elite.
  • Kenny Omega and Moxley fought in a ridiculously violent exploding barbed wire deathmatch. Regrettably, there was a botched pyro spot near the end that risks to derail the entire reputation of the PPV and become a Never Live It Down moment, though I'm sure AEW is already spinning its wheels to re-purpose the botch into a storyline like they always do.
  • No title changes.

Anyone else kinda annoyed at the Christian signing? What was the point of that Rumble return?

Christian and Paul Wight signing has started to get me worried. It's nice that AEW is still investing in younger or less evident talent, but I hope they haven't forgotten that one of WCW's biggest mistakes was just hiring a bunch of people they had no idea what to do with, just for the sake of jabbing at Vince.

Paul Wight I'm less concerned about because he's just in a commentary position (as strange as it is to hire a man who is not very eloquent to a commentary team). Christian worries me more given he is explicitly competing inside the ring (a concern I also share with Sting being out and about).

By and large I think they're doing pretty good, though. All the current champs are non-WWE (Male Singles Champ: Kenny Omega, Tag teams champ: Young Bucks, TNT Champ: Darby Allin, Female Champ: Hikaru Shida) and they're positionig a lot of other young fresh talent to take-over. They're generally pretty good about using older, WWE-built talent to put over their own talent.

Also Cody explicitly booking himself out of the main champ picture permanently to cast away any Kliq/NWO/Immortal vibes.

That made me glad to see...

And then the TNT Championship became a thing. And he had an extended reign with that, instead. While saying it wasn't a secondary title (even if we see it that way).

Even on that his long reign came with a bunch of caveats. One he mostly defended against non-AEW Indie guys as a sort of "screening process" for them (and that's how Eddie Kingston got in AEW) and his first reign ended with him being brutally and utterly destroyed by Brodie Lee in under 3 minutes to establish how monstrous Brodie is. Second reign was a bit too much for my taste but I will say it was clearly to be transitional for Darby (and of course, Brodie's tragic health issues derailed whatever ideas they could have had for him).

Cody's purpose in AEW almost seems like he's their consumate salesman. Whenever they have to sell something they pass it on to him so he can make come great promos (he did take after his father in that regard) and make something feel bigger than it should and then walk away after it is established. This is why he was one of the first challengers for the world title, the first TNT champion, and the guy beaten by both Brodie Lee and Darby Allin to solidify them as TNT champs. And had him fight Shaq to sell that ridiculous concept and Jade Cargill as a star (which against all odds fucking worked). Even last PPV they had Scorpio Sky beat thim to be Darby's challenger and solidfy Scorpio as a rising star.

Salesman Cody. That's hard times, daddy-o!

[up]Keith Lee and Dijak are finally tag teaming again?

I'm just gonna say it outright. Sasha Banks' frog splash does not look good. And especially with Montez Ford on the same roster. If she wants an Eddie Homage move, I'd probably suggest she adopt the Three Amigos Suplex, especially since it gives her a throw/slam-type move to use as a non-submission finisher.
...Then again, Eddie's weren't as good as Ford's, either...

Which reminds me of a fisher compilation video I have seen recently where they have shown Kairi Sane's elbow drop. It was a Japanese footage so it's pre-WWE, but damn, I didn't remember that being so intense-looking. Made me want to see her wrestling again.

So, I just saw Maki Itoh for the first time.

Anyone who does a full idol schtick and keeps going while her partners attack everyone else....is ok with me.

She's a crazy little bugger.

Edit: Also, is it just me, or does she currently look like Kyoko Sakura?

IIRC the only black people to win the Big Gold Belt were Ron Simmons (Farooq), Booker T, and Mark Henry. So, which side wins a 3 on 3 Elimination match (backstage politicking off), if all 6 are in their prime:

  • Ron Simmons, Booker T, Mark Henry
  • The Rock, Kofi Kingston, Bobby Lashley

Does the winner change, or the match get more lopsided, if it's a 3 on 3 falls count anywhere match? (i.e. no DQ, more room for environment and weapon use)

I think it depends on who can control the tag in/out pace. Kofi could out-speed Simmons, and possibly even Booker, but is at a severe power disadvantage against that team (this is where he should use submission moves, but he doesn't). Lashley's the only one who has enough power and leverage to take on Mark Henry. Booker and Rock are pretty even. If it was a promo battle, Rock and Kofi would dominate (sorry, Farooq).

Also, anyone else feel that now that both Kofi and Lashley have had the big one, it's not as frustrating how much WWE de-emphasized the Rock's black heritage?

I really wish whoever did the NJPW event Wikipedia pages would give them individual pages with even half as much care as the WWE pages. Instead of piling them onto one page with far less information. This one page contains 16 New Japan Cups, for example. And this page contains every G1 Climax from 1974 to 2018.
