That's what's been done for the past decade so I'd say it's safe to assume that's the path they'll go. Or, they could always continue the series without Optimus Prime. It's not unthinkable though it would be difficult to do what with him being the biggest name in Transformers.
Then again they've done plenty of death bluffs in the past, they'll probably find some excuse to bring him back if the next series is a sequel.
I've only really written one fanfic... but you can find it here http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8476612/1/After-the-FallNot really, the current comics have only included Optimus Prime in a total of six issues in the past two years, and half of them were flashbacks. The stories focus on different characters and have been praised for their original premises. It has since benefited the comics but as for whether it could be applied to a show is tricky to say.

That analogy made me jealous that I wasn't the one to say it...
That's exactly what it is.
Well they did try to do Transformers without Optimus one time.
It didn't work cause the guy they replaced him with (I think we all know who I'm speaking of) had too much baggage with him.
But things have changed since then, and a Transformers series with Optimus might just fly now.
One Strip! One Strip! It all depends on the format. An anthology based series such as Star Wars The Clone Wars can make the lack of a definitive lead character like Optimus less of an issue. It takes A Day in the Limelight to the pinnacle and could be a great addition to the mythology.
Yeah, it's unfortunate to say but they focus on marketing over storytelling, just look at how rushed season 2 ended up.

How so? In terms of storytelling I mean?

I've only really written one fanfic... but you can find it here http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8476612/1/After-the-FallYeah, I read somewhere that season two was originally going to stretch into season three, but with the concept of Beast Hunters being pitched, they had to wrap-up mid season.
I've only really written one fanfic... but you can find it here http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8476612/1/After-the-FallI finally got around to watching Predacons Rising, and thus finally finishing this show. I think it was pretty good, the CGI was great, and a fair amount of the characters were awesome too {Knock-out, Soundwave and Wheeljack are 3 of my favorites. Also, Hardshell was awesome, if only because he was voiced by David Kaye, yesss}. But I've got two complaints with the show:
1: Optimus Prime was too boring in the show. I understand what the writers were going with {He's suppose to be this leader who bears a ton of responsibility and guilt on his shoulders, and he's been through so much that he pretty much keeps his emotions in check 98% of the time}, but I don't feel like that aspect of his character that I just explained was explored well enough in the show {As in, the reasons why he's like this, be it the war stuff or his responsibility of being a prime and a leader weighing in on him}. That being said, Peter Cullen still does a great job of voicing the character, even if I'm not too fond of this version of Optimus Prime.
2: Season 2 felt so rushed. I mean seriously, there were quite a bit of potentially interesting plot threads that were just wasted, and it also spent way, WAY too much time on the whole Relic Hunt plot {Which pretty much lasted the whole season} instead of other things. If Etheru is correct about why this happened, then I have to call either laziness or just the bad side of trying to have a bunch of plot threads in a strictly 65 episode + movie show. But if Coheed is correct instead, then..... Wow, that really sucks, and it explains a heck of a lot too. Freaking Executive Meddling, man.
That being said, overall it was a good if pretty flawed show {Most of my problems come from how rushed and repetitive Season 2 was}, and I'm curious as to see how the next show will turn out, especially if it's going to go the Lighter and Softer route.

. It is pretty typical, you have ideas but they always have to be fluid in order to use it properly. With the Myth Arc being a Gotta Catch Them All that is so competitive between factions, having a bunch of filler episodes unrelated to it would make it a candidate for Arc Fatigue. Once they hit "Armada" and "Flying Mind" the filler episodes really do stand out from that point on, but they are so sparse it doesn't feel like a stall.
Season Two's story felt a little rushed but it was still epic and action packed. Season Three felt a little long winded even with fewer episodes but the focus on character interaction (especially "Plus One" with Wheeljack and Arcee) made it a welcome change from the story heavy season two.
Yeah, I liked Season 3 better. The rushed arcs were pretty underwhelming but I DID like some of the scavenger hunt episodes, though it was done so much that there wasn't room for much other variety.
The only things that bothered me about season 3 was how pointless the episodes involving gathering the Predacon fossils were when the Predacons were killed before they were even a threat. There was also Megatron who I felt had done next to nothing that season, and then I also got a little annoyed by Wheeljack and his constant "Let's dance!" badass routine... and the throwing of a grenade in an enclosed space... ehh. But I absolutely loved Smokescreen, Ratchet and Bumblebee with the latter being my favourite character in Predacons Rising, so that's made up for it in my opinion.
I've only really written one fanfic... but you can find it here http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8476612/1/After-the-FallBummblebee will lead the team in Next series. And he'll start calling Arcee mom.
I agree. Lotsa nice character bits in Season 3, but season 3 wasted a lot of its screentime of frivolous "relic" hunts note (All the more frivolous as we realize the cons could've just gone back to Cybertron and use Shockwave's samples from his labs there if the Autobots had won the fossil hunt...). A problem I ultimastely think extends to Predacons Rising: Good character bit, but weak on the plot because I couldn't use its runtime properly. Instead it tried to fit a plot that could've served a movie 2 times longer, not something merely the length of three episodes.

Yeah, I didn't think the plot was a necessarily "bad" one, but it was just so rushed... especially towards the end.
On the one hand, the "energon activator" button with the "beaming" system is probably one of the coolest versions of 'your figure is on TV' thing I've seen.
On the other hand, it feels like wasted potential given the actual game programming its hooked up to.
Yeah, yeah, I know, preschool kid age demographic and all. But still...

So how does this connect to Prime exactly?
I mean, The Hero kinda sorta joined the all-spark and all, so they can't exactly have him around.
Perhaps using the same characters, but in a different context and universe.
Maybe this time, Cliffjumper will be around for more than 5 minutes too.
