Is stage V the one where you can gain the full experience of watching a movie just by looking at the poster?
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyWell, that's one of the symptoms. Another is making six entries in the Film Posters trope the poster fits into while you are mentally watching the film.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI fully admit to having engaged in Stage IV as early as yesterday, with a My Little Pony release, no less. :D

“I just think that's really shady." "Shady?!" - Stephanie & Chad, The Amazing Race 17i do this all the time. it's an instinctual reaction by now, i think.
re: OP— i totally get what you mean about The Dresden Files. that series leaves and breathes on tropes, to the point where i'm sure jim butcher must visit this site a lot. those books are single-handedly to blame for a large percentage of my latest YKKTW entries.
I've entered Stage IV about a month or two ago. So much to still add!! Books, board games, video games...

Stupid question, maybe *, but is there an actual stage listing, or just "make shit up as you go"?

All your safe space are belong to TrumpObviously there's an actual stage list. If you were a serious enough case to be on it, you would have found it by now.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyI'm probally at stage one. I know a fair number of tropes, and I use trope names in conversation, but I don't notice all the tropes while watching something. Also I don't usually add examples, but that's because I get distracted reading other tropes. It is unlikely I will reach the stage of editing tvtropes WHILE watching a movie. I did notice Is That What They'reCallingItNow in Order of the Stick, and found the example already added.

I went to see Tangled today, and as awesome and engaging as it was I kept thinking about all the examples I wanted to add to its page when I got home! I was writing out examples in my head! Ditto now that I've started reading The Dresden Files; I'll pause mid read to compose an example! Does anyone else experience this? Is this TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life in action?
