Character named trope, no popcultural osmosis, blah blah blah. Rename please.

I've never heard it used as a generic term, but per the YKTTW, it apparently is an existing word for this character type. (Second definition)

Fan Myopia

Fagin is used as a reference to this character trope.

However, I think it could certainly use a good redirect, and maybe even a rename.

It's a word in the dictionary. It means exactly this trope.

For the record, I've never read nor seen Oliver Twist. That said, the fact that so many of the examples use his name either as characters or as storyline titles says something.

[up] I wasn't aware of that. If it's as iconic as The Pollyanna than it can stay I guess.

It's in the trope description that it's a word from the dictionary. It really is like The Pollyanna and The Casanova in that it's part of the English language without the book Oliver Twist.

Normally I'm against character-named tropes, but Oliver Twist is certainly well-known enough. Plus, it's a pre-existing term, no problem.

I don't mind making some redirects, but really, the only other term for this is Kidsman. It's really only used in law enforcement circles though and it's easily confused for a number of our other tropes.

Badly needs redirects, I question the logic that "it's an existing term," is an insurmountable reason against renaming, but in either case it needs some redirects.

I had a request to unlock the thread to farm for redirects. Have at it!

Orphan Rancher? Land Of Toys Lure? (from novel Pinocchio) Pleasure Island Lure? (from Disney's Pinocchio)

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

Orphan Rancher has nothing to do with the trope at hand. This is about someone who takes in children, they don't have to be orphans, just children and trains them to be thieves. There is no Ranching and Orphans aren't required. Both halves of the name are inaccurate and having a redirect that has nothing to do with the trope will lead to trope decay.

It's ok. I'll make up a laconic page. That will help. It's someone who teaches children to steal for them.

The first one is inaccurate. They aren't unsuspecting. The second one just sounds awkward. Trainer Of Child Thieves sounds better. And since we're just looking for a searchable redirect it doesn't have to be perfect.

I think starting it with Child will make people assume the character is a child. The long title amuses me though.

The Thief Master Of Children.... nah that doesn't work.

Teach A Kid To Steal And Let Him Do All The Work... to long.

My mind is drawing a blank on this one
