The 3rd season of "Gargoyles"

I'm a few episodes away from finishing watching the 2nd season, but I've heard (on this wiki, specifically) that I would be better off pretending that the 3rd season doesn't exist at all. My question is for anyone who has seen all the episodes - is the third season worth watching? If not, what's wrong with it?

Some people do like them, but most agree there was a severe drop in quality after the first episode of the third season. The biggest reason is that the creator left Disney after some creative differences. Some of the problems:

Weaker scripts, dialogs, and concepts. The series went from relatively mature and thought-provoking to essentially just another kid's action cartoon.

The ending for the series was horribly weak and unconvincing and left dozens, if not hundreds, of plot threads unresolved and ignored several characters.

Lower quality animation and more animation shortcuts.

IMO, you're better off hunting down the comics, which were created by Greg Weisman (the original creator) and take off after the end of season 2. However, watching and reading both wouldn't hurt. They're not horrible, just far below the standards set by season 1 and 2.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

I beg to differ; they are horrible, for the most part. They're almost painfully nonsensical, and throw out much of the characterization of the first two seasons, as well as the arc-based format, in favor of hitting every action-cartoon cliche they can. I'd say don't waste your money. Though you could always bittorrent an episode or two to see if your mileage varies.

On another note, the character of Xanatos who is enigmatic and multi-layered. In the third season he's an all-out good guy who seems to never have any motivations and is more of a magical resource.

Third season? What are you talking about...there WAS NO THIRD SEASON. No.

I watched the show when it was fresh, stopped after they fought Oberon and saved the baby. Was that the end of the second season?

^No. There were approximately 10 or so more episodes of Season 2 after that(going from my faulty memory anyway), and the season ended with a Broken Masquerade.

There were a few more after that; Xanatos chills out a little, and elects not to involve the Gargoyles in whatever schemes he's presumably still up to. In the finale, the Gargoyles' existence is publicly exposed, at which point Xanatos allows them to roost at Catle Wyvern again.

Well I've caught some season 3 on TV since then, so I know about the spoilers. But I'm definitely going to have to find those eps.

I honestly barely remember Season 3, despite watching all of it. What I do remember is that a lot of it didn't make much sense, and characters that I expected to go kick ass just stood around and waited for Goliath to take care of it. Definitely a lot of Villain Decay.

@Oscredwin: No, the second season ends with the multi-part episode involving the 3 modern day hunters.

@OP: At the very least, watch the first episode of the third season, which was also made by Greg. It's a very short season, and the episodes aren't that horrible, so I think it is worth to watch.

BTW, if you want to read a bit more about the third season, Greg has a section of his FAQ on it.

I'd like to see Gargoyles all the way through. Too bad Disney copped out on the DV Ds (it looks like they're doing that for every show they release, too)

And it just gets better from there!

I swear, I wish I could go Hunter on everyone who brings up Dis Continuity. SOOOO freakin annoying...

On better note, I enjoyed it all, I don't tend to take tropes and such to extremes and just cared there was a Season 3

I don't plan on seeing The Goliath Chronicles, so I can't say anything about the execution, but I'll say this: conceptually speaking, the theme (by which I mean the animation) is all kinds of awesome. Had it been completely made out of specific animation instead of in-show footage, and had showcased more characters, it could have been one of my favorite american openings ever.

Sorry for necroing this thread, I'm searching for the main Gargoyles thread and can't find it.

By the way, I also don't plan on watching The Goliath Chronicles after what I heard about it. I read that "Hunter's Moon" is a decent enough climax to end the series there if you don't want to read the comics.

If I remember right, this was the closest to a main thread we had.

I don't think we had a strict "main thread" either way. But that one has posts all the way to 2022, though it was started a year prior. There was a 2013 one that was a generic question at everyone(something we don't allow), so that wasn't it. I couldn't find anything else as close as this one, though.
