Rebuild of Evangelion

Honestly, I think that it would be best if, after the last Rebuild film comes out, Anno just hands the franchise over to Tsurumaki with no strings attached and lets go. As in, ceases personal involvement and lets someone else take over. I mean, everyone's praising Anno for Rebuild but it's Tsurumaki who's been actually directing all four Eva movies released so far and is the guy behind Diebuster and FLCL, so he clearly doesn't need Anno's handholding.

Anno is the one who made Eva great, but he simply can't give the franchise what it deserves anymore because he's at his emotional limit. He's only human, after all.

The final twist of Rebuild will be a "Truman Show" Plot.

So, um... Khara are apparently in the editing stage for the final film. Whatever that means.

I’m guessing from this post on the khara2 twitter account. picture of people in the Khara editing room, with screens covered by the kanji for “secret”.

Assuming everything works out fine, the next (and final?) Rebuild of Evangelion movie should be out in 2020.

Man, eight years in between films? I've grown and changed a lot over that time.

That leaves me some time to rewatch the first three, because the only things I remember about them are the piano scene and Asuka with an eyepatch…

Teaser's been taken down but according to Evageeks, the official tweet says khara somehow got Toho and Toei on board with the distribution together. Which is basically the Japanese equivalent of someone getting Disney and Warner Bros. together.

Also, 2020 will be Eva's 25th anniversary and Anno's 60th birthday. Guy is aiming to Go Out With A Bang.

With that analogy, it sounds like a huge deal, but what does Toei and Toho have to do with Evangelion?

And wow, not only is 2020 a milestone for Evangelion, but also for Anno. Didn't know about that last one. Hopefully, Anno will, you know, take steps in not suffering massive burnout/depression/other bad things while making this one.

Meanwhile, we have more crew members and a look at Evangelion Unit 08!

Though is anyone else weirded out it looks like they're using tape to support those giant arms?

Thats a dumb nitpick. It really isn't that big of a deal.

Let’s be honest we have more evidence that this won’t be in the film than that it will. The only thing I’m taking away from it is that we haven’t seen the last of Mari and her Blood Knight tendencies, and that’s fine by me.

You really think Anno would release a trailer featuring images that might not appear in the movie at all? </sarcasm>

I mean, that teaser trailer would imply Mari will get to do things ^note That aren't Asuka that is, so you know it'll end up on the cutting room floor.

Mari is literally a blank slate with barely a backstory that was put into the movie for fanservice. I hope they flesh her out more.

Her little bit of fleshing out was in the manga special chapter at the end that featured her and her crush on Yui.

It's why people aren't going to be surprised if they reveal in Rebuild she's the lady in he picture with baby Shinji.

She’s also the only person who doesn’t have a stick up their ass when dealing with Shinji, and notably Anno himself deliberately has as little to do with her character as possible.

“Something something she’s there to break Eva” or something.

To lighten the mood most likely..
