heh i loved this when i saw it last week
here's the link (linky)
The beginning was funny, the ending was...........WOW.
Umbran Climax◊I watched it after seeing the thread. It was good, and I think I liked it, and it's stuck with me mentally for at least a day (or was it two) after I've watched it, so that must mean something... []The ending was absolutely, horribly depressing, however. And what's more, I feel like I should feel more sorry for Penny than I do for Dr. Horrible, as she was probably the most sympathetic character in the whole thing, but I don't think I do... I feel sorry for her, certainly, and it really, really stinks that she died, I still think I might feel more sorry for Dr. Horrible. Maybe this is because her story, while sad, wasn't quite as...tragic. Yes, she died, but she wasn't totally broken and she died with some measure of hope, unlike Dr. Horrible who is pretty much hopeless and broken. (Edit: or maybe it was just because Dr. Horrible was the viewpoint character)
Thinking about it, it actually reminds me of a couple things that I read in two of my English classes—Hamlet and Cyrano De Bergerac. It reminds me of Hamlet in that it's a tragedy and that much of the tragedy is caused (sometimes indirectly) by the protagonist himself. And it reminds me of Cyrano De Bergerac, because it starts out funny and light and then gets horribly depressing. And in that I feel very sorry for the protagonist.
Anyway, the ending was very unexpected for me. Even though I'd [] skimmed the trope page.I expected Penny to stop Captain Hammer, or the Death Ray to backfire on Captain Hammer. But I certainly didn't expect Penny to die. I suppose it makes sense, considering that it is sort of a Start of Darkness, but still, it was horribly depressing. And yet, for some reason I want to watch it again. I need closure, gosh darn it.]] Anyway, I suppose if it can stick with me this long, it probably means that it's good.

Sweet. You know, I was at Comic-Con and sort of wanted to go see that, but it was absolutely mobbed — as in, an hour beforehand the line was all the down the hall, around the corner, down that hall, out the building, and then all the way down the steps, and then all the way back up the steps. I think Joss was may have been the biggest celebrity there this year, well, him or Kevin Smith.
I adore Dr. Horrible and Neil Patrick Harris. The writing has inspired me to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer (currently on season 6) and I'm planning to watch a couple other of his creations, along with some of Felicia Day's work. I am extremely happy to hear about a sequel and I trust Whedon to pull it off. I can only hope that the songs will be as infectious as the original-I have been singing the entire musical to myself since I saw it a month or so ago.
Bloggin' it upIt is, it is indeed.
Even though I bought it on iTunes, I went and re-bought the DVD. Commentary The Musical is 40-odd minutes of freaking awesome.
I laughed the most at "Everyone's a Hero" the first time I watched it! It's hilarious!
"I can't imagine what Hell will have in store, but I know when I'm there, I won't wander anymore."I enjoyed it. I hear there's a sequel in the works; maybe they'll bring back Penny (Franken Penny?).
Can't really have a discussion about Dr. Horrible though without the original singing mad scientist, Dr. Steel.
If any of you guys want more Horrible, there is Horrible Turn,
a fanmade production that explores the earlier life of Billy Buddy. Trope page here.
"Can't really have a discussion about Dr. Horrible though without the original singing mad scientist, Dr. Steel. wink"
Don't you mean Dr.Frank-N-Furter?

I hate to resurrect such an old thread, but I got turned on to Dr. Horrible this past weekend thanks to my wife, of all people, and have been obsessing over it for the last five days. I downloaded the episodes to my iPod Touch and must have watched them twenty times by now. I also took a blowtorch to our article on it, because it was desperately in need of cleanup.
Man, I hope they do more of this. I know it's coming but I'm already going through withdrawal. And I'm wondering how they'll handle the story, as an extension of the original or a true sequel. As noted above, Acts I - III pretty much tie off the Start of Darkness, so a new show would have to operate on a new premise, or dig up the old one a-la "Franken Penny".
My favorite song is probably "Slipping", with "Everything You Ever" as a very close second, and either "My Eyes" or "Brand New Day" competing for third.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Bought this as a Christmas gift. Loved it.
It was weird seeing Nathan Fillion being a jerk (instead of Good Is Not Nice in Firefly). Has he done other roles like that?

She's playing with fire! He's not ready for Nibbly Pig!What's this a description of?
A man with mental problems goes to a public event to shoot a public figure who he hates. He shoots into the crowd, and though he fails to kill his actual target (despite reducing them to a state where they are incapable of doing their civic duty), he does kill at least one civilian- an innocent who dreamed to make the world a better place through nonviolent means. The press gets all over it and it forever cements him as a villain in the public eye.
If you answered "Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog", you're half right. If you answered "the recent shooting in Arizona", you're also half right. If you answered "both", you're right.
...creepy...
I'm feeling strangely happy now, contented and serene. Oh don't you see, finally I'll be, somewhere that's green...

For those of you who haven't seen Joss Whedon's newest new-media short-short-short three-part masterpiece, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, do so. Right now. I'll wait.
Also, I'm sort of torn on whether or not I'd want it to continue. The story is fairly self contained, and while it does, broadly, read like an origin story, the whole point is, to me, that the story's "non-ending" is an ending for the Dr. Horrible we know, even if it's just a beginning for another, altogether less nice Dr. Horrible.
