On CD:
- Battles: Mirrored
- The New Possibility: John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Album
- Dizzy Gillespie & His Orchestra: Afro
On vinyl:
- The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, New Orleans
- Gregorian Chants for Christmas
- Charlie Byrd: Christmas Carols for Solo Guitar
- On Her Majestys Secret Service OST
Meta, you will not regret buying Mirrored, it's one of the best albums of the decade.
I've recently acquired two albums by Ólafur Arnalds, Eulogy For Evolution and Found Songs.
Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable! The beginning and end of Mirrored are really good, but the stuff in the middle isn't doing anything for me. I'm beginning to suspect that post-rock is just not for me.
Anyway, as usual, I went to the record store to buy one specific thing, and ended up buying four:
- Jimmy Smith: Chrismas '64
- Orbital: The Middle of Nowhere
- A Hawk and a Hacksaw: Déliverance
- The Jazz Mandolin Project: Tour de Flux
Hmm, fair enough, I can see where you're coming from. Rainbow is certainly the strangest track on the album, and Bad Trails was always my least favourite. But Race:In, Atlas, Tonto and Tij more than make up for them.
I have just purchased: * The Shins - Oh, Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow (Had select tracks from both, but owned neither album legally).
- Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours (Because it cost the princely sum of £3)
- Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
I illegally downloaded the illegal album Jesus H. Christ by Chumbawamba. Interesting stuff, although it's obvious why it wasn't properly released.
(That is to say, sampling out the hizzouse)
Just got De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta and In the Unlikely Event by The Fall of Troy. Both of which are awesome and I've already listened to three times in a row.
Imi's reminding me that I need more Zappa albums on CD. As always.
"I can't imagine what Hell will have in store, but I know when I'm there, I won't wander anymore."I thought s2 was the "shit we didn't use in the series" album. That's what I thought from the one song I've heard from it
, anyway.
It's pretty much every OST from the series, along with quite a few (pretty good) experimental and test/practice tracks.
Also, once you listen to the first song, you get a face full of Rei
◊. Yeah, that's the artwork for Disc 1. And it is CREEPY AS SHIT.
I got Death's album "Human" from a friend as a gift, and just now I got Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" and DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing....." from a thrift store. :)
