I've never gotten why people think it's so bad. It's long and full of vowels, but it's not hideously embarrassing like Shyteed.

I rather agree with Alicorn that it sounds like a Pokemon, but it's certainly better than many of the names on the list. Though 'the sound of a record scratch' could be amusing. Is there a trope for 'The Untranscribable'? (Also, of course, The Unpronounceable, unless you've got a really really strange larynx.)

I think I'd still rather be named by Stephanie Meyer than Sarah Palin.

[up][up][up]It's Twilight, people don't need an excuse to hate :P

Also, the xkcd forum thread on it has posters offering their examples of *delightful* names. I mean... Linux Nassar?

Good comic, but I don't like how the punchline's solely in the Alt Text.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

I agree, that felt plain lazy. That punchline really should have been a caption. Hell, I would've been happy if he'd done that and then used the alt text to slip in one more "really bad" name.

Indeed, that jars with his usual style.

For those complaining about the punchline, they should recall that every name in the list has it's own joke, which is another pattern of Randall's.

Right, but having that last line as a caption would have made it even funnier, I think.

I think most of the names were already funny because they were just so stupid.

Plus, anyone who's read XKCD regularly knows that there's Alt Text, so that doesn't really bother me.

Anyone got a clue as to the alt text? Presumably the study of God's creation of Man in Genesis is also punnable with 'entomology'?

Edit: Ah, XKCD fora say it's 'etiology'.

Honestly, I would read a comic that's just the adventures of Etymology Man.

I know what you mean. I didn't flashback here, but every now and then it happens. I was sitting at the park listening to the sound of construction. and suddenly the memories started to overrun my mind. There I am in the dark, falling, and I hear a slow rhythmic smacking noise, a voice near by talks about "slow-clap processors", and below me stretches infinite darkness. My dreams are haunted by vast pipes filled with gel, wall panels sliding up and revealing row after row of turrets. When I go to the mall I see the cameras and I swear they turn to look at me. It's horrible.

It's true what they say. You can escape the facility, but you can never escape the facility.

... Look if you need to talk about it you can PM me and I will listen to you. Consider joining Aperture Science Survivors. They helped me with my flashbacks.

Please.
